Wow. I wasn’t expecting it at all, but my June 2014 Julep Maven box arrived today! I was super excited to see it though because I had been in a bit of subscription box drought lately.
If you aren’t familiar, Julep is a monthly nail polish subscription service. They have recently switched a few things up and are now offering a “My Maven” box for $24.99/month which contains $40+ worth of product and polish or “Maven Luxe” for $39.99/month which contains $60+ of prestige products. Both boxes are fully customizable and you have the option to switch between tiers. Subscribers prior to 4/29/14 are grandfathered in at the $19.99/month rate, however, they will need to upgrade if they want to customize their boxes. If you opt for a prepaid subscription of 3-months, you can also get the $19.99/rate which is fully customizable!
My Julep box this month shipped via USPS Priority Mail. Last month’s box shipped via USPS First Class Mail, so I don’t know why it changed this month. I did also get some add-ons, so maybe that was why?
I had zero idea what option I had selected for this month, but as I was opening up the box it all came back to me!
The June 2014 Julep Maven theme was “The Three Wishes Collection”. I haven’t made the switch to the fully customized box yet (I was grandfathered in at the $19.99 rate and don’t want to switch to the $24.99 rate just yet) so I had to select from the “preset” box options. I opted for “Classic With A Twist” this month which included the following items:
~Bergen (Classic With A Twist) ($14 / $11.20): Bergen is a hazy blue-grey shimmer. It’s not my favorite color ever, but I didn’t have anything like it. At least I don’t think I do. I still haven’t swatched all my Julep lids like I want too so I am going by memory.
~Ariana (Classic With A Twist) ($14 / $11.20): Ariana is an enchanted berry iridescent chrome and is the complete reason I picked this box. It’s gorgeous. Even more so in person than I thought it would be. Had I done the customize option I would have went for Ariana and Jennine, which is a stunning “borealis blue stardust (matte glitter)”. I ended up picking that one up as an add-on, however, now that I think about it I should have just done the customize upgrade!
~Julep Oxygen Smoothing Base Coat ($18 /$14.40): I do not use a base coat like I should and I pay the price because I end up with stained nails which I then like to whine about. I plan to try this with the last Julep (some do, some don’t) polish I used that stained my nails (it was a dark turquoise color)! And I will report back on the results.
All totaled I came up with a value of $36.80 for the June 2014 Julep Maven “Classic with a Twist” box! I don’t think this was my most favorite ever collection, but I got two solid colors and a gorgeous add-on, so I am happy! I also opted for one of the Mystery Grab Bags and received four polishes (Marjorie, Teri, Anisa & Veronica), Julep Lip Gloss (Fearless) and Kajal Eye Glider (Carbon Black / Brown Shimmer). I cannot for the life of me recall what the price was on the Mystery Bag, but I don’t think it was too expensive (maybe $19.99?), and I thought it was a nice little haul! ETA: Two of the polishes I thought were part of the Mystery Bag might be from the gift Julep offered to Maven’s in June for taking 3 add-ons with our box.
Did you get Julep this month? What collection did you get? As always, if you are interested in subscribing to Julep, click here and use the coupon code “FREEBOX” to get your first box for $4.99 (you pay only the shipping) or it will take $19.99 off a 3-month subscription, which makes your first box totally free (a 3-month prepaid subscription works out to $19.99/month).
