August 2014 Barkbox

Yay!  Baxter and Buddy’s August 2014 Barkbox has arrived!  They have been anticipating its arrival and were so happy to see it on the porch.  It might just be that they like seeing the mailman, but they were barking like crazy when he set it down.

If you aren’t familiar, BarkBox is a monthly subscription box for dogs! Each monthly box contains a combination of 4-6 treats, toys, and hygiene products that have been hand selected and approved by Scout, head product tester for BarkBox. We have been getting Barkbox since I found a Groupon for them over two years ago and haven’t looked back!

The Box

Barkbox ships via DHL Global Mail (starts out as DHL and is delivered by the USPS) and took over a week to arrive.  Sometimes it’s a few days, sometimes it’s much more.

First Look

The first thing I noticed this month was the new paper!  It had a boating / water theme to it so I didn’t know if that meant that was this month’s theme or if it was just cute summer time paper.

The Information Card

Turns out the paper related to the August 2014 Barkbox theme which is “Ahoy, matey” and includes the following items to help your pup get ready to set sail for a mighty ocean inspired journey:

~Muddy Buddy Dog Mop ($9.99): I actually just got a similar product in a different box this month, but I ended up giving that one to my brother’s dogs so this one is all mine!  Baxter will certainly appreciate that it will help his fur dry up to five times faster.

~Bocce’s Bakery Lobster Roll Treats ($9.50): I couldn’t wait to have the dogs try these so I opened the package right away!  The results were mixed.  Buddy ate his (I think because he was afraid Baxter would get it), but Baxter just kind of wandered around with his.  I will try them again and if they aren’t fans I will give them to my brother’s herd.

~Bixbi Daily Essentials Chicken Breast Jerky Treats ($10): The boys haven’t gotten around to trying these out yet, but I know they will be huge fans.  What’s not to like about jerky treats?

~Pet Rageous Lobster ($6): And fitting right in with the theme is a floating squeaky lobster toy! We will be bringing this guy up-north for Buddy who loves to run out into the lake and retrieve toys! It might actually be the only time he really gets into fetch.

All totaled I came up with a value of $35.49 for the August 2014 Barkbox.  And like I usually do I thought they did an amazing job with the theme this month!  And, as you can see, the furries were happy as well.

Loved this box (especially the lobster)! We had some variation since my one dog has food allergies (I mentioned it in a Barkbox survey and they not only acknowledged that I made mention, but they now tailor my box to my dog’s needs!) Our treats were salmon jerky and venison jerky. They both seem to love them!

    1. Jennifer

That is awesome that they tailor the box for you!

I loved our box this month. I joined the extra toy club so Bailey received 3 toys and 2 snacks this time. I would love to receive the towel so I’m hoping its in our next months box.

      Fingers crossed it is!

I think I finally figured out why my box is sometimes completely different than yours- I subscribe to the Tiny dog box and I think you get the Small and Cute box. I had the same items this month, except no lobster toy. Instead we got a mini Cardinal bird that sings/chirps. They way they tied it into the ocean theme is that the cardinal has a white sailor hat.

Ohh that would make sense! I do get Small & Cute!

Your dogs are adorable. I love the lobster and towel.

This is my last box using the voucher which I can?t recall if it was from Groupon or Living Social. We are going to continue with our subscription. This is for the medium dog box although both dogs enjoy the box. Jax and Bones Nautical Wheel Rope Toy which my 5 year old claimed for his imaginary pirate ship, Feel Good Treat Co Seafood Chowder which both the cats and dogs love, Waboba Fetch which is the water ball thatwe use as a regular ball and is super bouncy, and the Grandma Bowser?s Cheddar Biscuits which they decided to bury.

That wheel toy is so cute! I love it!

Can I ask how much your dogs weigh? My dog is exactly 10 pounds (maltipoo) and I can’t decide between the tiny or small box.

    1. Jennifer

10lbs and 12lbs! I get the small. One is a yorkie and the other is a yorkie (1/2 yorkie, 1/2 shah-tzu). I recommend the small!

        Thanks! That helps a lot!
