August 2014 Mantry

B’s August 2014 Mantry was another one of the boxes that arrived while we were away for the weekend and B was happy to see it!

If you aren’t familiar with them, Mantry (aka the Modern Man’s Pantry) is a food of the month club that lets you discover the finest american artisan foods – and gives you ideas of what to do with them.  At $75/month it’s a spendy box for sure, but B totally totally loves it.

The Box

Mantry ships via UPS Mail Innovations.  It starts out at UPS and is typically delivered by USPS.  Unless UPS delivers it (which they will if they are in the area), it takes two days to arrive.

The Crate

We are still saving out Mantry crates and we still do not have an exact plan for them yet.  B says he is going to make a bar out of them, but I have yet to see any progress on it.

The Information Card – Front

The front cover of the August 2014 Mantry information book was 3-D and included 3-D glasses so you could check it out!  I have never gotten anything 3-D in a subscription box, so this was a first for me.

The Information Card

The August 2014 Mantry theme was “Grill & Chill” and included the following:

~Grady’s Cold Brew Bean Bags ($12): We received these in the last Men’s Limited Edition Birchbox, but I don’t know if they have been tried yet?  It’s been such a crazy summer we and we are way behind!  Mantry suggests steeping this overnight and then mixing in a bit of bourbon, heavy cream and a bit of sugar and then freezing it for a grown-up creamsicle.  How amazing does that sound?

~Bourbon Barrel Foods Bourbon Smoked Sugar ($11): The sky is the limit for the options on this one.  You could use it on the rim of a Julep or as an addition to a dessert.  I have no idea what B is planning with this one, but I am excited to find out.

~Pata Negra Imperial Dry Cured Chorizo (~$15): I can’t find this for sale online anywhere, so I had to guess at the price.  This is totally a B item and once he opens it he will have it gone quickly.  I actually might suggest he bring this up-north over the weekend so everyone can try it!

~Zukali Fire Roasted Pineapple Salsa ($6.95): My salsa leaked a bit so I need to contact Mantry to get a replacement.  I actually had this issue once before and they replaced it super fast, so I am expecting the same to happen this time.  I like the idea of using this on the grill and think chicken (instead of the shrimp they show) would be incredible.

~Bob’s Red Mill Israeli Couscous ($4.18): Not overly fancy or unique, but something tells me this will be gone first!  I think all the meal subscription boxes introduced me to couscous and made me realize it’s actually very good!

~Holy Smoke Smoked Olive Oil ($15): Ohh, we can always use olive oil around here. Always!  B is always browsing for new fancy olive oils and this for sure fits that bill.

All totaled I came up with an (estimated) value of $64.13 for the August 2014 Mantry box.  This box was everything I was been wanting from Mantry these past few months and I loved it!  It didn’t have any repeats from previous boxes, all the brands were new to Mantry (at least I think they were) and that is just what I am looking for from this box!  I love it!

Did you get Mantry this month?  What’d you think?  If you are interested in subscribing or just want to learn more, click here and you can save $25 off your first month! How fabulous is that? That would bring the cost of your first box down to $50 which is awesome!
