I enjoyed the book selections Paper Dots made for me so much on my review boxes that I decided to pick up a subscription of my own!

If you aren’t familiar, Paper Dots sends subscribers one handpicked, expert-curated book to their doorstep each month. Book selections are made for you based on your questionnaire answers.  It has questions like what was the last book you read, why did you like it, what was the last book you read and didn’t finish, what genre of books do you like, etc.  Books are selected to engage and entice subscribers into becoming a committed reader. Boxes also include “a little something” extra to help the words come off the pages and into your life!

Paper Dots ships via USPS Media Mail which can take anywhere from a few days to over a week to arrive. They don’t send out shipping notifications, so it’s always a surprise when it shows up.

I was SO excited to see what book I received this month.  Paper Dots always seems to pick books for me that I end up loving, but never ever would have picked on my own which is why I love them.  It’s fun to discover new books.

Since all boxes are customized there is no information card, but here is what I received this month from Paper Dots:

~The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman: Not only have I never heard of this book or author, but based on the cover, I probably wouldn’t have picked it on my own.  However, just from the description alone (it’s about a young couple that moved to a remote island and end up finding a baby), I was hooked.  I started reading and now I am even more hooked. If you haven’t read this yet, GET IT NOW!  Ahhh!!!!  It is going to take all the willpower I haven’t to stay up until 2am finishing this tonight.

~Anchor Necklace: This month’s “go with” was an anchor necklace.  I don’t know that I will ever wear it, but I like the charm itself a lot and may try and figure out something to do with it.  Maybe just take the chain off and stick a magnet to the back?  That might work.

As usual, I don’t think that Paper Dots is going to save you any money by subscribing.  That’s not what they are about.  However, they will give you an experience and introduce you to new books that you’ve never heard of before and, hopefully, will love!  I love opening up these boxes and seeing what I will get next!

My bookclub read this book a few months ago. Have you finished? What did you think of how it ended?? I didn’t like the last 3rd of the book so much.

    1. Jennifer

I have not finished! Maybe tonight??

That book was one we had for book club. I liked it but it wasn’t the easiest read for me.
Most of the books we read in about a years time had female characters I found hard to root for and weren’t very uplifting. After reading those I asked that the next book the book club read be something with unicorns pooping rainbows.

      What are you reading now??

Our current book club book is “Orange is the New Black”. None of us watch the show so we thought it might be interesting to read the book. Had to laugh but the woman hosting for this book sent us a “summons” to appear for the meeting. We all plan on wearing orange!

(Our last book club book was The Wife, The Maid, and the Mistress which was a fun detective type novel).

    1. Jennifer

      Oh I liked that book!

This is a nice idea having a book with a go with gift.

      Agreed!

I recently subscribed, but they sent me a book that I already own. I haven’t had any luck contacting them. Have you heard of anyone else having issues? I’m concerned enough that I want to cancel my subscription, but can’t find a link to do that!

    1. Jennifer

I haven’t tried to contact them
But I was thinking if putting mine on hold. I’ll report back!

Have you had any luck in contacting them? I’m finding their site to be not-very-helpful. I’m not thrilled with what they sent me. Allegedly, I can exchange it. But I can’t find any information on their site about HOW to do this. Nor have they responded to my emails. I’m not overly impressed.

        1. Jennifer

I thought someone else commented that they got through to them on Facebook? I haven’t gotten September yet so I should probably e-mail them myself..

Just wanted to let you know about the message I just sent to them. I am so pissed off at their company and their utter lack of service:

          ————————-

I want to make it clear why I have cancelled my subscription: your customer service is not only terrible, but non-existent. I emailed, as well as wrote on your FB wall AND messaged you on FB. Not once did I receive a reply.

Additionally, your website is useless for anything but subscribing. Want to see shipping info? Returns policy? Terms and conditions? You’re out of luck, because the links leads to essentially blank pages, with Latin: “Duis mollis, est non commodo luctus, nisi erat porttitor ligula, eget lacinia odio sem nec elit. Maecenas sed diam eget risus varius blandit sit amet non magna.”

The only reason I was able to figure out how to cancel my subscription was because you sent me a notice that I’d be charged for my second shipment.

To say I am unhappy is an understatement. I will not be recommending your service to anyone.

          ——————————

Just wanted to give you an update of the situation, as well as give your readers a possible heads-up.

          1. Jennifer

UGH. I need to cancel mine and just haven’t gotten around to it. If worse comes to worse though I’ll just contact my credit card company.

Oh, did Elsa come in the mail yet? I finally remembered to mail it!

I got my September box from them today. Was so excited til I opened it, the ‘extra’ of making a origami cello gave it away as being if I stay which I just read 2 weeks ago lol. Had to email them cause I’m not sure what they do if they happen to send a book you already have.

    1. Jennifer

Report back on what they say!

      1. Alyssa

So they messaged me on facebook earlier to email them about instructions to get a replacement. When they replied to that email I sent they gave me an address to send the duplicate book and once they receive it they’ll send me a new book for free. O and I get to keep the pink origami paper and instructions to make an origami cello not the best extra ever but maybe better then the dollar store calculator I got last month lol

        1. Jennifer

LOL! I should be getting my Sept. one pretty soon I bet. I hope I get a good one.

I was so excited to try Paperdots out…but I signed up for them on September 20th and still have not received my book. I was willing to wait as they probably take a while since they try to personalize your book with your profile, and they don’t send shipping notifications. However, now I’m worried because I tried to go on their website today to contact them and it says it’s “expired”. I also couldn’t find their Facebook page even though I followed them. So far, I am not impressed and am wondering if I should just try to get my money back.

    1. Jennifer

They sent out an e-mail yesterday (?) saying that they were closing their doors. I actually contacted my credit card company and filed a claim because I hadn’t gotten September or October or heard back from them.
