October 2014 Hamptons Lane

Hamptons Lane, who kindly sent me this box to review, curates an amazing monthly box of artisan foods, kitchen tools, and serveware for the food lover. Boxes are $47/month and are revealed at the beginning of every month. Boxes are created around a monthly theme, such as Southwestern Fiesta, Summer Cocktail, The Best of BBQ, Coastal Italy, etc.  Unlike most subscription boxes, you can skip the box if it doesn’t interest you during the first five days of that month.

The Box

Hamptons Lane always ships in the most interesting boxes.  They have their own Hamptons Lane boxes, but not everything always fits in them, so you often get a larger box and then the actual HL box is inside.

First Look

You always know what’s in Hamptons Lane boxes (well as long as you looked you know) so the first look is never a surprise.

The actual Hamptons Lane box contained the smaller items from this month’s box.  Everything instead was neatly and securely packed and I wasn’t worried about it breaking at all.

The Information Card

The October 2014 Hamptons Lane theme was “Spanish Tapas” and included the following items to help you get a true Spanish Tapas experience at home:

~Arbequina Olives From Dequmana ($6.99): These are cured the natural way with water and salt for 3-4 months.  You can eat them on their own (which I will not be doing since I do not like olives) or blend them into a tapenade for chorizo-filled dates. My mom was here when this box arrived today and she commented about how cute they were so I am going to send them home with her!

~Sweet Smoked Paprika D.O. from la Dalia ($5.98): This is apparently known as the the most flavorful paprika in Spain.  We will we using this in all recipes that call for Paprika from here on out!

~Imperial Spanish Chorizo from Pata Negra ($15): I can’t find this for sale online so I had to guess at the price.  B loves this stuff (we’ve received it in a box or two in the past) and I cannot wait to try it in paella!

~Organic Piquillo Peppers from Matiz ($9.99): These will obviously be used in our paella this weekend as well (stay tuned to B’s instagram for that).  They are are traditionally picked and produced almost entirely by hand – with no chemicals used.

~Steel Paella Pan (~$20): I had to guess on the price on this one well.  It’s a traditional paella pan and is big enough for a meal for 8-12 people.  We do not have a paella pan and will be using this over the weekend!

All totaled I came up with an estimated value of $57.96 for the October 2014 Hamptons Lane box.  As usual it was above the $47 cost of the box!  I absolutely love that you can see in advance exactly what you are getting with this box and love that if you aren’t interested you aren’t locked in!
