Loot Crate, who kindly sent me this box to review, is a monthly subscription box full of hand-picked, awesome geek and gamer products. Each month, for less than $20, you’ll receive 6-8 products which are guaranteed to have a value of $30 or more.

Loot Crate ships via USPS around the 20th of the month and generally takes just a few days to arrive.

The Note on the Box

This month’s box had a little note on the outside to alert subscribers about the box and how different it was this month.  You had to read the second page of the magazine (which is inside the box) to find out what to do.

Turns out that the box turns into a city!  I have been loving what Loot Crate has been doing with the actual boxes themselves the past few months and I hope they keep it up.  It is really creative of them.

The Information Book

The November 2014 Loot Crate theme was “Battle”.  I’d tell you a little more about the theme, but my information booklet didn’t seem to have page 1 and 2 in it.  Did anyone else have that problem?  It started with page 3 this month?  No matter!  Here is what was included in the November 2014 Loot Crate:

~Pirates vs. Ninja Shirt by Zen Monkey Studios: This shirt is a Loot Crate exclusive and asks the age old question “Who would best the other in battle-Pirates or Ninjas?”.  I’m not 100% sure I have ever thought about that myself, but I asked L and he said Ninjas, so there you have it.

~Assassin’s Creed IV Unity Coin with Velvet Pouch: This is another Loot Crate exclusive.  I   am not overly familiar with Assassin’s Creed, so I will pass this on to a friend who is.

~Mega Man Mini Helmet by CAPCOM: Another Loot Crate exclusive! This is a replica of some of various helmets Mega Man has donned over the years.

~HALO Drop Ship Mini Figure by Mega Bloks ($11.95): I am going to save this for L for a stocking stuffer so I didn’t open it up.    He doesn’t play HALO or anything, but he’ll for sure think this is cool.

~Street Fighter Headband by CAPCOM: You guessed it, this is a Loot Crate exclusive! It’s a replica of Ryu’s headband from Street Fighter.  This will end up in L’s stocking as well!

Since so many of this month’s items were Loot Crate exclusives, I couldn’t do a cost breakdown on the November box.  I’m just curious, if you subscribe to Loot Crate, do you like when you get a t-shirt from them?  I tend to like the non-shirt boxes better, but I am guessing that I am alone on this? Let me know!

We’ve been subscribing for about 7 months and really liked this summer’s boxes better than the ones this fall, but the box for November was good, so hopefully they’re coming back around again. We definitely like the boxes with the shirts better. It seems like as long as it comes with a shirt, it’s totally worth the price of the box. They obviously put other cool stuff in there, but some of the items are a hit or miss.

One complaint my boyfriend has is that basically all “geek/gamer” shirts are black. He’s getting sick of the black shirts with some geek/gamer item stamped on the front. Besides the transformers red shirt, they’ve only been doing black shirts. I subscribed to 1UPbox last month (we love it and it’s cheaper), it comes with a shirt every month too. All the shirts are really creative from both boxes, but of course the first shirt from 1upbox was black too, lol.

Our megaman helmet also came damaged this month. I emailed lootcrate about it, waiting to hear a response.

My older son gave up his boxes because he wanted to enter a special tae kwon doe lesson. He would like the shirt. I’m still on the email list and will be checking their website to see what is being offered.

Did you see their past box sale?

Yeah, I have noticed that if there is a t-shirt, the other items are not as good. We do like getting t-shirts every once in awhile though and since you do not pay more for a t-shirt box, it’s a great value.

I love their non shirt boxes. I have also had size problems with the shirts. I’m a small and it’s a 50/50 shot (depending on the brand) if the shirt fits. The ones with the cool words NEVER fit. So disappointing. I’m excited for the next box though. It should be very cool.
