October 2014 Hazel Lane

My October 2014 Hazel Lane box arrived on Halloween!  I love getting this box and always look forward to seeing their selections.

If you aren’t familiar, Hazel Lane sends a carefully curated box of surprise goodies from that month’s selected city that they think represents its spirit.  The idea is to give you an affordable way to explore the world without having to leave your house!  Items you can expect to see included are food, drink, clothing, accessories and handcrafted items chosen by locals with the environment, social responsibility and CHICNESS in mind. I subscribe to the “Classic” box which is $46.99/month.

Hazel Lane ships via USPS Priority Mail near the end of the month.  No tracking is sent on this box, but you can generally expect it to arrive the last few days of the month.

First Look

I couldn’t tell too much from the first look, but I think I liked what I saw.

The Information Card

The October 2014 Hazel Lane destination was “Nashville” and included the following finds from the Music City:

~Loveless Cafe Oven Mitt ($12): According to the information card, Loveless Cafe is one of the nation’s top spots to snag biscuits and brunch.  Just reading about them makes me want to visit there.  I do love this oven mitt and it’s already gotten some use.

~HamiltonHouse Prints ($9.50): These prints are made on upcycled music sheets. I like the idea behind this and this it’s absolutely perfect for the theme, but I am not totally sure what I am going to do with it.  I will try and figure something out though.

~Project 615 Legends Tote ($15): This is a Hazel Lane exclusive!  100% of the proceeds from Project 615 purchases go to charity and they are based in Nashville.

~Music City Suds If Scrubbing You Is Wrong… ($6): I feel like I have gotten something from Music City Suds before, but I can’t recall where.  This soap is all natural and is packaged in reclaimed sheet music.  I do wish Hazel Lane would have packaged this in some sort of bag or something though because it did leave some soap shavings / residue on the tote.  They will for sure come off, but still.

~Little Seed Farm Salve ($5): This salve can be used on lips, cuticles, and anywhere else you have chapped skin.  It’s made in small batches in Nashville and will be great for the upcoming winter weather.

~GooGoo Cluster Guitar Pick & GooGoo Cluster ($2): We have a guitar (although no one really knows how to play), but we’ll probably use this as a bookmark as suggested on the information card.  As for the GooGoo Cluster?  Well B polished that off about two minutes after I opened the box.  I’d say he liked it.

~Bonus: Nashville Artist Download ($12): I haven’t played around with any of the music downloads yet and will probably end up passing this on to B for him to use.

All totaled I came up with a value of $51.45 for the October 2014 Hazel Lane box.  That doesn’t include the value of the download since that was a bonus item!  I for sure think I got a feel of Nashville with this box and always love the unique items that they select!

I tried those GooGoo Cluster before and they really are a treat! I have also been to the Loveless Cafe and it’s such a wonderful place, I live in Kentucky and I drive to Nashville all the time that place is a goldmine there is also a place in Nashville called the Pancake Pantry it is wonderful also, the line to get in is always out the door.

    1. Jennifer

Pancake Pantry sounds like my kind of place!

We definitely got the soap before but it was just a little square that didn’t tell us which scent it was. Neither you or I could figure out what scent we had received. I just can’t remember what box it was in either! Lol I am happy to get a full size bar. Loved this box and love Hazel Lane

    1. Jennifer

Yes! I remember that! I had no idea!

  3. Nicole

Man o man, I love Nashville! Loveless Cafe is deeeelicious! And I love Project 615, I have a tank top just like that tote. It’s a great organization. Great box, exactly what I would imagine to be in it.

    1. Jennifer

So many great picks this month!

  4. Jessica

Now I can’t wait to get this box! I love it! And I’ve been kinda Meh about the last two, but this one is amazing. And we got Music City Suds samples in a Dottie Box. 😉

    1. Jennifer

YES! That was it! You rock!

As a Nashville resident, I have to admit I only recognized the Loveless mitt and the Goo Goo cluster. Most people I know, natives included, haven’t made their way to The Loveless Cafe yet. The general consensus from the few that have is that it is mostly a tourist attraction, given that many local stops hit it out of the park when it comes to brunch and biscuits whereas the Loveless doesn’t always live up to the hype. That being said, it’s about 45 min from the city but it’s always packed!

    1. Jennifer

What are your favorite local places? In case I ever make it there!

  6. Chrissy

I WANT THAT TOTE BAG!!! OMG!

    1. Jennifer

      It’s cool right???

  7. Kristin

I LOVE that tote. I am only about 2 hours from Nashville and have never been there. It is on the list to visit so I hope to go soon.

    1. Jennifer

      You need to go!!!

  8. Nicole Midgley

We live in a suburb of Nashville, so I was especially excited to read this review! 🙂

    1. Jennifer

How do you think they did??

      1. Nicole Midgley

I think they did great! There was a good mix of well known with lesser known products. There was a good mix of types of products that lots of people would be happy with (or at least would make nice Christmas presents!)
Nashville has quite a lot of small local companies that make almost anything you could think of, so there is no shortage of products for a box like this!
Oh yeah, if you like Little Seed Farm on facebook, they post lots of cool pictures of their goats. 🙂

Ordered the Women’s legend pink tank from Project 615 this morning. What a great company!!!

    1. Jennifer

      That’s awesome!

  10. Jacquelyn Noell

That tote is too cute. =]

  11. Shawna

As someone who has lived in Nashville for almost 13 years, this box made me smile – I know of all of those companies, and Loveless Cafe is a MUST if you ever visit. Just prepare for a long wait, but it is oh-so-worth it.

    1. Jennifer

It really gave a nice feel of Nashville!

  12. PA Anna

I’ve been to Nashville a few times for conferences. GooGoo clusters are everywhere there! The bag made me miss the Grand Ole Opry. My children and I were the only ones on the tour when we went which was amazing. I try to see something new every time I am there. I’ll have to try the Loveless Cafe at some point. That is the problem with conferences. It’s hard to get out and see what is around you.

    1. Jennifer

That would be amazing! A private tour!

  13. Cathleen

I got a black and white checked infinity scarf rather than the potholder. I think the potholder would be more useful for me!

    1. Jennifer

Do you get the Classic Box as well?

      1. Cathleen

Well, I thought that I get the Classic box, but apparently I get the Deluxe! Everything besides the scarf was the same as your box, and the scarf’s retail value is $40.

As a fellow Nashvillian, I respectfully disagree. Most everyone who is local has been to the Loveless at one time or another.
