Yesterday was a crazy busy day, but you better bet I stopped what I was doing when I saw that my November 2014 Hazel Lane box had arrived!

If you aren’t familiar, Hazel Lane sends a carefully curated box of surprise goodies from that month’s selected city that they think represents its spirit.  The idea is to give you an affordable way to explore the world without having to leave your house!  Items you can expect to see included are food, drink, clothing, accessories and handcrafted items chosen by locals with the environment, social responsibility and CHICNESS in mind. I subscribe to the “Classic” box which is $46.99/month.

Loved the colors in the first look and the use of washi tape was much appreciated!

The Information Card

The November 2014 Hazel Lane destination was “Oakland, CA” and contained the following items:

~Oakland Leather Pouch ($18): I love this little pouch.  It’s handcrafted and can be used to store your jewelry, iPhone cords, etc.  I have this in my bag already!

~Oaklandish Beanie ($15) & Sticker ($1): I may not be able to pull off a “BALLIN” hat, but I can pull this one off!  The information card says that Oaklandish was just voted best small business by Fortune and Forbes which is awesome.  Everything is made in Oakland and Oaklandish is a huge supporter of the community and sponsors many local events.

~ReJigger ($15): Well isn’t this handy!  It’s a tool to help you make amazing craft cocktails at home.  This is so cool because we get a lot of “stuff” in subscription boxes to make cocktails, but I don’t ever know if we have perfected them.  The ReJigger has three separate sections labeled A, B and C and there are recipes for a variety of cocktails on the website which tell you what ingredient to put in what slot.  It makes it so easy!  Genius!

All totaled I came up with a value of $49 for the November 2014 Hazel Lane “Oakland” Classic Box.  As usual I loved the curation and absolutely cannot wait for the December “Hawaii” box!  I bet they knock it out of the park!

Amazing they did an Oakland box. I think it’s a city like Detroit, where it gets a bad rap but there are some really good parts to it. Yay to a local Bay Area town.

I drove through it once, but that was the extent of my visit!

I am surprised there wasn’t anything for the Oakland Raiders in there. My husband is obsessed with them.

      Hi Victoria,

Gooooooooo Raiders!!! Although we didn’t include any official Raiders gear, we did have these pouches especially made in silver and black to represent the team colors! Woo Hoo! We also included “Inna Jam” Jalepeno jelly and lemon jelly in our larger boxes. Green and yellow?Oakland A’s colors ;). My husband is a huge fan of all the amazing Oakland teams so we represented the city in a more subtle way. Hope you are having a wonderful day and thanks for checking us out 😉

Not bad, not bad. I mean not GREAT. But could be worse.

I would have like to see some local food products in there since we have one of the most amazing food scenes in the world. For example, I think, Mantry just included something from Oaktown Spice Shop.

I’ll admit that I’ve never heard of anyone making those pouches or the rejigger thingy.

      Hi Tracy.
So glad to see you are an Oaklander! We so wish we could squeeze everything into one box that represents the city. Oakland is AMAZING and there was so much goodness to choose from. Our Deluxe and G5 boxes include some of the amazing local cuisine including Baia Pasta (Jack London Square), Hopscotch “Old East Bay” spice (a pun on Old Bay seasoning), and Inna Jam preserves and jelly. We also included a “This is Oakland” book in our G5 box which shows all the local hot spots and must see places to visit. We couldn’t have been more pleased to get to know all of our vendors in Oakland as well as stop at each location personally to pick out the pieces.
We hope you have a wonderful holiday season and enjoy your beautiful city.
