Two questions today…..

1. What are you getting for your child’s teacher / daycare provider? Or if you are a teacher or the like, what do you like to get? I usually do Target or Starbucks gift cards and some sort of “go with” like a bag of coffee or a cookie mix or something like that. Not very creative, but (hopefully) it’s useful! If you do something super creative, please share!

2. How much is a gallon of gas where you live right now? I live in Metro Detroit and it’s about $2.40/gallon right now which is crazy.  I doubt it’s going to stay like this, but I am loving it!

Now it’s your turn! Oh and a little note on the new comment system.  You may have noticed it changed and it has!  It’s through Disqus now and I am testing it out for a bit to see if I like it.  You can sign in through your Facebook or Twitter or Disqus or register for a new Disqus account free.  Or you can check the box next to “I’d rather post as a guest” and it will just have you fill in your name and e-mail like before!  What’s cool about this though is that you can now post pictures in the comments if you want!  So if you want to show off a subscription box you got or your adorable dogs or whatever, the option is there.

Our teachers are getting gift cards too. I feel like they can all use that and I don’t have to worry about any allergies, scent preferences or anything. This year they are getting Dunkin and Target cards. 🙂
I just got gas the other day at Shell and it was $2.49 and I used my rewards so I got 3cents off that which is awesome. That is the cheapest I’ve seen it around here though. Most are about $2.54.
I noticed the new comments and think its fun but you know I love to write so whichever way you go is good with me.

I think I like the comment system, although I need to figure out where I can see all the comments in one place and not have to go on every post to reply.

Gas is about $2.20 here in Chattanooga. It has been the lowest in the country for awhile now. It is great, but I drive a hybrid and work from home, so I don’t have to take full advantage of the lower prices.

I don’t even know how much gas costs here right now. I had to get a new car (old one died a few months ago) and I don’t have to fill up the tank very often, maybe twice a month. (Better gas mileage, bigger gas tank, and also a very short commute to work.) So I’m spending less on gas no matter what the price is.

When my mom was a 3rd grade teacher, she got a TON of bath and body stuff and scented candles. She used to bring it home and let my sister and me split it up. She has really sensitive skin and couldn’t use any of the lotions. I think gift cards are a good way to go.

I’m OK with the comment system either way you want to go. I kind of like looking at the little twitter avatar with one of my cats (he’s in the bathtub there, where he regularly goes voluntarily — but not when there’s water involved).

Twice a month! That is amazing!

My mom used to work at an elementary school and there was always SO many Bath & Body Works soaps. I think it’s assumed when you work in an elementary school you wash your hands a lot!

we had 6 teachers to gift this year. I went to AC Moore and we bought beads for bracelets similar to the pandora style, they were on sale and my kids had fun having a part in making the gift. plus they all came out beautiful!! it worked out well for us.

    1. theramblingjen

      That’s so creative!

We have Three teacher we are getting something for this year, Each one will be getting a Lush Charity Pot supporting Charities that fits there personality, and then A gift card and for the teacher who likes to write notes I got personalized stationary in her favorite color. I try to have my kids get to know their teachers and what they like so it can be something they will enjoy.

    1. theramblingjen

I need to work on that when my son gets a bit older!

Gas here is down around $2.20. I think we have just about the lowest prices in the US most of them time because we live not too far from a sea port and right off a major interstate highway.

I have 9 teachers this year so I will do $10 gift cards (Dunkin Donuts here) for the 4 main teachers and $5.00 cards for the specials (gym, spanish, art, music) teachers. It’s not so creative but I buy colored cellophane goody bags, fill them up halfway with Ghirardelli squares of mixed holiday chocolates (peppermint bark, salted caramel) and then tuck the gift card peeking out of the candy. I use silver twist ties and attach a little note saying thank you with the teachers name signed by the kids. I have the kids help and it gets them excited. Not expensive and doesn’t collect dust for the teacher.

    1. theramblingjen

That is a really cute idea! And I love that the kids can help!

My son’s teacher is getting the December PSMH. Normally Starbucks GC, but she’s pregnant and anti coffee right now.
Where are u getting gas??? I pay $3.20

    1. theramblingjen

      $3.20! Where are you?

      1. Lauren

Metro d. My husband reminded me that I use premium.. lol so that would explain..

        1. theramblingjen

LOL!!!! That makes a lot more sense!

I regularly pay under $2 a gallon when I gas up at Kroger. We have been buying a ton of gift cards lately and you get 4x fuel points for those!

As for teacher gifts, both my parents are teachers so they bring home a crazy mess of things but more so at Valentine’s than at Christmas. When my brothers and I were little my dad always made our teachers awesome wooden decorations for the different seasons (scarecrow, snowman, heart, pencil) and then my mom would paint them and add their names to it. I went back to my elementary school when I was in high school choir and noticed a lot of our old teachers had their snowmen on their doors!

Gas was $2.29 last I checked, probably cheaper now since that was like a week ago. There was a gas station here that had it for $1.99/gallon if you paid cash yesterday though. I’m not sure if they extended it to today. I have 50 cents off per gallon up to 35 gallons thanks to Fry’s (Kroger) that expires on the 31st so I’m just waiting until gas gets super super cheap to use it.

    1. theramblingjen

I love those Kroger fuel points! I feel like I am stealing gas it’s so cheap.

  11. Nich

I paid $2.83 in Dublin, CA but in the next town over it was $2.69, I believe going off of memory. Loving the gas prices, I hope it stays this way for awhile.

    1. theramblingjen

      Totally loving the prices!

  12. Erin

    $2.99 in Buffalo, NY!

  13. Crystal

No kids & no teachers myself but last year I gifted my managers an initial mug from Target & a bag of coffee. Put the bagged coffee in the mug, wrapped in cellophane & tied a bow around it & it was done. Cheap & easy! And I retract my statement on no kids, here is my kid. 🙂

    1. theramblingjen

      Ahhhh, so cute!!!!!!!!

We usually get our daycare provider Netflix giftcards along with store bought treats so they can have family movie night. Gas was $2.29 this morning in the Kansas City suburbs!

  15. Elizabeth

    1. For teachers/day care, I picked up the Erin Condren deskpads when they were 40% off (they were about $15.00 each). They aren’t dated so they can start using them whenever they want.

    2. I think gas is about $2.49 right now.

I usually give gift cards, but my son started middle school this year and has 9 teachers! That’s not including his favorite teacher that he only had for the first trimester. So I’m stumped, and may just be giving really small gifts. I did give a gift card to the youth director at our local gym/community center. She really works with the kids and throws the monthly teen and tween parties, plus an up-all-night party twice a year, so I like to do something for her. We do appreciation activities for the teachers through the parent/teacher group, but the youth director is part of a non-profit, and I wanted to be sure she felt some appreciation too.

As for the gift cards when we could afford to give that many out, we purchased gift cards to local ice cream or frozen yogurt shops. It’s something fun, and it supports a local business as well!

    1. theramblingjen

That’s a really good idea with the local gift cards.

And 9 teachers?? yeah, that is when gifts probably will get a lot smaller around here. That’s so hard!

  17. Chelsea

Last night gas was $3.22 per gallon here in Anchorage, AK.

  18. Hannah

    1. I don’t have kids yet, but I may copy your gifts when I do have kids 😉

    2. Gas here in VA is $2.25, I’m loving it!
