December 2014 Kiwi Crate

I’m still working on catching up on some of my 2014 reviews, but I knew I had to get my December 2014 Kiwi Crate finished up before the January one arrives.

If you aren’t familiar, Kiwi Crates are designed around fun themes and filled with all of the materials and inspiration for hands-on projects for kids ages 3-7. L and I have been doing the projects together for years and every now and then, WB gets in on the action!

First Look

We have subscribed to Kiwi Crate for years and I have to say, they always come up with new themes and projects.  I don’t believe they have ever had a repeat which is pretty impressive.

Frozen Fun

The December 2014 Kiwi Crate theme was “Frozen Fun” and included two projects “my winter luminaries” and “my snowman toss”.

My Winter Luminaries – The Supplies

My Winter Luminaries included all the items you need to build a pair of luminaries with wintery scenes.  The project was high on the messiness scale, medium on the grown-up involvement scale and involved creating, discovering and moving – fine.

In Process

Kiwi Crate recommended putting down a paper bag to protect your workspace, but we found that the top of the box worked just fine.  L and I both made a luminary and found the instructions to be easy to follow and we didn’t think it was very messy at all.

I love how these turned out!  The little battery operated lights work perfect and they look so cool.  Such a fun project and L and I totally enjoyed it.

My Snowman Toss – The Supplies

My Snowman Toss included of the materials needed to decorate a snowman and play a fun snowball toss game.  It was low on the messiness scale, low on the grownup involvement scale and involved exploring, creating and moving – gross.

In Progress

While L and I worked on the luminaries, B and WB worked on building the snowman.  B did most of the building and WB did most of the instructing.  I think they both had a good time working on it.

My Snowman Toss – The Final Product

B said that WB didn’t feel like coloring our snowman, which I am not sure I believe.  I think he was just scared of WB and markers.  WB does have a great arm though and happily threw the ball around. Sometimes hitting the snowman.  Sometimes not ;).

explore! Magazine

The explore! magazine includes puzzles, games, stories and additional activities relating to the theme.  I try to remember to carry one in my bag because they are great for waiting rooms and at restaurants.

We all had fun with Kiwi Crate this month and the winter theme was perfect for us right now.  I saw spoilers for the January Kiwi Crate and it looks SO cute!  I cannot wait for it to get here!
