January 2015 Hazel Lane Subscription Review
January 2015 Hazel Lane

Lots of good mail arrived today including my January 2015 Hazel Lane! We are expecting a snowstorm tomorrow (YES!), but I’ve got lots of boxes to keep me busy if we are stuck inside (which I hope we are).

If you aren’t familiar, Hazel Lane sends a carefully curated box of surprise goodies from that month’s selected city that they think represents its spirit.  The idea is to give you an affordable way to explore the world without having to leave your house!  Items you can expect to see included are food, drink, clothing, accessories and handcrafted items chosen by locals with the environment, social responsibility and CHICNESS in mind. I subscribe to the “Classic” box which is $46.99/month.

Hazel Lane ships towards the end of the month via USPS Priority Mail.

First Look

I tried to find some spoilers on this one last night but didn’t have any luck.  But just like with yesterdays Hammock Pack, it was fun to be surprised with this one.

For whatever reason, this month’s box didn’t have an information card.  Or a postcard with the destination like they normally do. I’m not sure if just my box was missing these or if everyone’s was, but here is what was included in the January 2015 Hazel Lane San Francisco Mission District box:

~Fellow Barber Styling Cream ($22): The timing for this one couldn’t be more perfect.  B was just telling me how he needed new hair stuff and I hadn’t gotten a chance (aka remembered) to pick him up any yet.  I believe that this is designed for men, but it would certainly work for ladies as well.  Fellow Barber has a few locations on NYC and one in the Mission District of San Francisco.

~Scents of San Francisco The Mission Candle: This candle is a combination of “lime, palo santo and cinnamon”.  I am not sure I could pull any of those scents out, but it is a very unique combination. It’s like nothing I have ever smelled before actually.  I like it.

~Poco Dolce Olive Oil Sea Salt Bar ($7): According to the company’s website, this bar was voted the best chocolate bar in San Francisco.  Of course I had to taste it right away and it is amazing.  It’s one of those chocolate bars where a square after dinner is going to satisfy that sweet tooth.  It’s a soft chocolate (it doesn’t crack when you break off a square) and is very creamy.

~Philz Coffee Tesora: Tesora is Philz signature blend. B will be taking this to work to enjoy it.  They all bring in lots of different coffees to try and hopefully they love this.

~San Francisco Trick Dog Tourist Map & The San Francisco Burrito: If I am ever in San Francisco again (and hopefully I am), I plan to go to Trick Dog (it’s a bar in the Mission District) and try some of these drinks!  They are all named after different tourist spots around the city which is pretty cool.  I am not too sure who makes the Burrito image, but that burrito looks very tasty!

I couldn’t locate prices online for a few of these and I didn’t know the makers of one, so I couldn’t do a cost breakdown on this box.  I am happy with it though and it really makes me want to visit SF and try out some of (okay all of) these places in person!
