Two questions today…..

1. What’s your current “project”? Are you planning a wedding? In the middle of a big craft project? Refinishing some furniture?  I just finished the Gallery Wall in my office and now need to move on to the one in the entryway going up the stairs.  I think that’s going to be much more difficult though because it’s a bigger space and hard to reach. I also really really still want to learn how to sew so that I can make some cheap pillowcases!  What about you?  What are you into right now?

2. What’s the BEST part about where you live?  I live in the suburbs of Detroit and I love that we are close enough to the city that we can we down there and go to a Tigers baseball game or the casino or to a great dinner.  But I also like living in the suburbs.  Granted, I have never lived in a city, but I like having a car and a backyard and all that.  I may not like it quite as much if we weren’t so close to a city with a lot of “stuff”, but it’s a very nice balance for us right now.

Can’t wait to hear your answers!

I’m working on this ridiculous giant cross stitch of a tiger in space. it’s ENORMOUS and completely horrible and I have no idea where i’m putting it – or if I should even allow it in my house when it’s done- but it’s fun
    http://www.sewinspiring.co.uk/acatalog/2411tigeroftheheavens.jpg < – case and point

and the best part? I guess for other people the beach – i'm about 10 minutes away but I never get a chance to go. For me? I'm about 45 minutes away from Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral so I get to see rocket launches.

        Love it!

I am planning a wedding, hopefully next May/June.. It is all very overwhelming/pricey, and I am ready to just elope!! But, I am not sure that is an option with our families!

    1. Lia

I’m right there with you! We booked our venue last week and while I knew what the prices were going to be like for everything I’m kind of panicking. I think the last thing I spent more than a thousand dollars on was my car and this week literally EVERYTHING I’m calling people about is $1,500 minimum. It’s bizarro world.

    1. Ive been sewing alot. Im so hooked on chalkboard fabric. My kids too. So ive been sewing cool accessory pouches that they can write and erase on. Ill be moving on the chalkboard/sparkle vinyl placemats next.
    2. Im a stones throw from nyc. So id like to go to a musical in the spring. Something my older kids will enjoy. Some beach and fair planning for summer. I enjoy sub/country living tho. Im close to all important things (malls, hair, nice restaurants)!and a short (hour) drive from everything. I hate HATE the cold tho. Florida would work for me now too :/

  4. Cindy

You gotta ck out JoAnn’s pillowcase class…easy sewing lessons and half off sign up days..love the city too but live in the sub’s and really love that too

  5. Cymbre Martin

Currently sorting my closet and the rest of our junk, trying to get ready to move apartments in about two months.
Living in NYC is amazing with all of the stuff to do, but my favorite part by far has to be the food. We order takeout more often then I am willing to admit: if you’re ever in the city I have an embarrassingly large list of suggestions.

    1) planning a wedding and finishing up grad school! There’s a lot on my plate right now, but I love it!

    2) same here. We live in a suburb of Chicago and I love that I can hop on the train and be downtown but also have our cars and parking spots and cheaper rent!

  7. Kristy

1 – My current project is planning my wedding for the summer of 2016, being maid of horn or at my sisters wedding this October and….MOVING BACK TO THE MITTEN in May! I am so excited about that!

2- The best part about where I live now is that its so small there is no traffic…EVER. That will be the hardest part about coming back to Michigan; all the traffic. However the family and friends there out weigh the traffic LOL

  8. Chrissy

My current project is organizing our upstairs closest – bathroom stuff, sheets, towels, etc. It is an absolute clusterfuck right now and I can’t take it anymore! I bought baskets from the dollar store and what I’ve organized so far looks great but I need to finish.

I live in Cherry Hill, NJ and I love it so much because we are a very city-like suburb – there are a million great places to shop and eat. We are 15 minutes from Philly, 1.5hrs from NYC, and close to many smaller towns in NJ like Haddonfield, Collingswood, and Smithville. This area really does have everything!

  9. SQUINJ

    1) My current project is about to be painting my bedroom and bathroom. I’ve finally picked colors and just need to get in gear and do it.

    2) I live in the suburbs of Houston (as close to the edge as I could be) and I love everything down here. Right now I love the fact that I don’t get snow. I grew up close to Amarillo, TX and my parents are still there and keep calling about it snowing there and I like to tell them about how I’m wearing shorts and tshirt (that was this weekend, back to winter jackets today). I love the fact that shopping is so close – like where I grew up there was pretty much only a wal-mart in the town. Here i can go to a gillian stores in like 5 minutes. So if I”m working on my house or just want to roam Target I’m set. I love how green it is here and how everybody is outside doing stuff on remotely warm days. I love working in my garden during the summer. I love the variety of food down here from all over and how I can drive an hour and a half south and hit the beach or an hour and a half north and be at my Aunt and Uncle’s lake house. And I grew up where it is super windy so I love how it isn’t 90 mph wind all the time.

I’m currently knitting socks for a friend’s husband. We lost her in the fall to breast cancer so I thought a little present might help bring some cheer into his life, however small. It has been very hard on all of us (her friends) so I can’t even imagine what he must be going through.

We live on an old farm outside Philadelphia. We don’t farm but there is a farmer that still farms the land around his. He grows hay and corn and soybeans. I love not having neighbors and watching the crops grow but still being able to go into Philadelphia for the restaurants or the orchestra. I’ve been in NYC on a weekly basis for the last few months. They have much better food up there I think, but I’m still always so relieved to get home to the quiet farm and our animals.

    1. My husband and I have had a small business for a bit now, but it’s been pretty unofficial. We have just been doing online business and selling locally but this week I officially applied for a business license and obtained all the legal representation and what not we need to be on the books and open our storefront! So exciting.
    2. I live in Austin, Texas. In the suburbs. It’s a huge city and very spread out so it doesn’t feel like there’s 2 million people here. I’m in the southern part of the city so I can avoid all the traffic going north most days. Our neighborhood is quiet, but only 10 minutes from downtown and 5 minutes from large shopping centers. The only thing I hate is the weather during the summer! My husband and I both grew up north, so we’re a little cold blooded. I lived on the west coast most of my adult life so the humidity is really what kills me. :p besides that, I like it here! Lots going on, but it doesn’t feel like we’re in a big city most of the time.

    1. I finally got out a sewing machine I bought on Amazon for sale two years ago and am making American Girl (well, knock-off AG) doll clothes for my kids out of their old clothes that have stains and can’t be donated. I’d eventually like to do a quilt out of their old baby clothes like my grandmother did for me. I wish I had a sewing room because I’m using the dining room table right now!
    2. We live in CT, just outside of NYC in a small beach town, so I would say our favorite things are the beach, the cute country fairs and farmers markets. We are super close to the museums, etc. in NYC as well. PS – I’m from MI, so my family gets back there to enjoy our favorite things there like the musical fountain in Grand Haven and the GR Picnic Pops!

    1. I’ve been doing a ton of jewelry making lately. I used to make things all the time when I was younger and just recently got back into it. I don’t have a lot of time for it in the summer, but since I currently live in the arctic tundra, I’m finding lots of time for indoor crafts! I have a few of the things I’ve done on my blog http://www.amateuratlarge.blogspot.com. I don’t sell them or anything, it’s just a fun hobby.

    2. The best thing about where I live? Well right now I’m hating where I live due to the worst winter I’ve ever experienced (and I used to live in upstate NY). Seriously, my diesel truck stalled driving down the highway today because the fuel froze. Talk about a nightmare! But what I love about my home is being 15 minutes from the beach/ Long Island Sound. And if I don’t feel like driving that far, I have a beautiful lake just across the street from my farm. Also I live on a horse farm. So that’s pretty great too… unless its winter. Then it’s just a lot of work out in the cold.

I’m currently working on fixing the hole in my bathroom ceiling. My boyfriend fell through it a while ago while looking in the attic (he was okay fortunately!). We were going to hire someone to fix it and put in a new rain showerhead (not attached to the regular shower head- I can do that kind of stuff!) but haven’t and probably won’t so I’m going to just put new drywall up and repaint the whole bathroom. We’re getting the exterior of the house painted (which is why we’re probably not going to be having the bathrooms remodelled right now).

I would like to learn how to sew too, but I’m thinking I should just sell my machine since it has never been used in the years (at least 6!) I’ve had it. Too bad I threw away the box because then I could sell it as “New in Box!”

I think everything about Phoenix is the best. We have great weather pretty much year round. Everything’s spread out so going places isn’t congested and annoying but there’s literally everything within 30 minutes of any location. An hour or two in any direction will bring cool air and more shit to do and the beach (San Diego/LA or Rocky Point) is close enough too. Plus, most people (us excluded for now) have pools. Housing is cheap but pay is good. Spring training is king here with the Cactus league. Tons of hiking and outdoor adventure is doable most of the year. Lots of microbreweries are popping up. There’s a wealth of good restaurants too.

I am working on a massive cross stitch for my mom’s new house. It has birch trees and various different birds on it. She loves birds, especially Blue Birds and they are on this too. It is slow going because of grad school and work though.

I currently live in the suburbs of Chattanooga and love it. I grew up right outside Philadelphia and so growing up within a stones throw of a major city is ideal for me. My husband is southern and has lived in the country most of his life. This is a compromise and we are both loving it a lot. We go into the city a lot yet we live on a large and quiet property where we have a view of mountains.

  16. Traci

My big project right now is that I am buying a house. It is technically in the city, but I have a backyard and a garage. I also got to spend a bunch of money on my car yesterday. My excitement on things is dwindling with all the work and random things popping up. I even gave up almost all my subscription boxes for now.

I think you should go take a class at a local store! I love knowing how to sew, it makes adjusting things so easy.

  17. Jenny

These are hard questions today. My all the time project is organizing my scrap/work space. I will get it the way I think and then realize it doesn’t really work so I end up piling things up and then I have to start all over. LOL
I love living in Cary,NC most of the time. Having the crazy snow here right now is not helping that. LOL I am only a couple hours from the beach and the mountains and I can get to most major sporting events in that time frame too. I can also drive to Disney in about 10 hours so that isn’t too bad either. I also love the people and the feeling that even if I don’t really know you we could talk and would be instant friends in about 2 minutes flat. Gotta love the southern charm down here.

  18. Fallon

    1) My current project is packing! We take possession of our first house on Monday, so the next few days are going to be hectic!

    2) Our current apartment (for the next 6 days) is right on a trendy/artsy street filled with farmer’s markets, restaurants and cute little shops. I’m really going to miss it, but our house in the suburbs is going to be great because we’ll have a backyard and a garage (I’m so over cleaning snow/frost off my car every morning before work). Plus our square footage almost doubles, so I’ll finally be able to set up my sewing machine and get back to crafting!

  19. Lia

I AM planning a wedding! We’ve been engaged for over a year and totally afraid to bite the bullet because I have a HUGE family who would all be heartbroken if I eloped or something. But two weeks ago we decided to just do it and booked the venue for October for our 250 guests. I am currently typing on my laptop that is sitting in the middle of a huge pile of paper and envelopes because I’m trying to get my save the dates out soon.

I live in the San Fernando Valley, which is the “real” Hollywood– all the studios are near us and hundreds of tv shows and movies were filmed all around our neighborhood. It makes for lots of free dates. We’ve gone to see lots of our favorite shows taped. The movie theaters near us do free movie previews (sometimes the studios even pay us to watch the movie!). Plus there’s just lots of free/cheap museums, art galleries, music venues and stuff around LA. We keep a google doc with all the fun things we hear about and I have it labeled with different categories based on price, how long it would take, etc. It’s great to just decide we’re not ready to go home yet and take a drive along the coast or go take stupid selfies in front of the Dunder-Mifflin office or Elliot’s house from ET. 🙂

I have a four day scrap thing I’m going to in a couple of weeks. I really can’t think past that right now as I am so not prepared! (any scrappers know this means page planning and I haven’t even started).

The best part about where I live other than I’m an hour from the beach and maybe three hours from skiing and San Francisco is less than an hour away and I have my choice of professional football, hockey, basketball and baseball? The weather. Though today it is a cold 65 degrees. But the suns out, so I’m not complaining.

  21. Hannah

    1. I don’t really have a big project right now. My birthday is on Friday so I’m planning a teeny birthday party, but nothing crazy. Work was miserable today & all week looks like it’s going to be miserable (plus I have to work on Saturday) so my birthday party is just in the way now 🙁 which sucks because it’s my favorite “holiday” 😉
    2. I live in a small city in northwest VA & I like it. I went to college in northern VA, near DC, & hated the traffic & some of the people were so rude, so I moved back home the day I graduated. The small city I live in now has great restaurants & some fun attractions. Within an hour there are tons of breweries, cideries, distilleries, & vineyards. About 20ish minutes away we have a ski resort which I grew up going to every week. Within 2 hours we can be in DC, Richmond, & a lot of major airports. We’re about 3.5 hours away from the beach. I do want to move far away someday just to experience a new place, since I’ve always been within 2 hours from where I grew up.
