bluum April 2015 Subscription Box + bluum Up Items

bluum, is a monthly box of goodies for moms and babies.  Products are hand selected based on your child’s age (from pregnancy to preschool), gender and developmental stage.  I have gotten bluum for years and while the boxes have had their ups and downs I have generally been pretty pleased with the boxes I have received from them.

The Box

bluum ships via FedEx Smart Post and generally takes about a week to arrive.  I generally plan on receiving it during the second half of the month.

First Look

My first thought when I opened this was wow, this looks like a fantastic box!  It was only later, when I received my box e-mail from bluum, that I realized I had some “bluum up” items this month.  The “bluum up” is bluum’s add-to-box feature.  They allow you to add-on products to your box and they will ship for free with your monthly box.

The Card

The card included in the bluum box doesn’t include product information. Rather, that information is sent to you in a e-mail on the day that you receive your box (although I haven’t gotten anything on this one yet) and it appears in your account online as well (mine isn’t showing there yet either though).  WB’s April 2015 bluum box was for a 40 month-old (*) and included the following items:

~Child’s Play Roly Poly Box Book – Numbers ($10.99): This book is cool.  Like really cool.  It’s shaped like a cube and it unfolds with little pop-up pictures that you can count along with.  WB is already a big fan of it.

~Peaceable Kingdom Reusable Sticker Totes – Critter Tree House ($9.99): These are supposed to be reusable, but we’ll just see how many uses WB gets out of them.  I can’t see it being too many just because he’s SO rough with stuff like this.  He already created a scene though and it looks cute.

~Manhattan Toy Imagine I Can – Mini Tin – Shape Stack ($6.67): I had to look at the e-mail a few times to make sure that this was indeed for WB and not a mom gift.  I tried for a good ten minutes to get all the shapes on the wobbly stacker and could NOT do it. I even made B try.  No luck.  I don’t think WB will get frustrated playing this though, so that’s good.

~Shwings Shoe Accessory – Wings – Blue ($8.95): Once WB gets some shoes that he can wear these on, he will.  His feet are so tiny still that these may still be bigger than his shoe.

I opted for the following bluum UP (which are an additional per item cost on top of the monthly box charge):

~Parragon Books Potty Training Book – Potty Superhero: I thought maybe a fun book would inspire WB to be a little more into being a big boy.  I don’t know about that though.  He says he likes being a baby.  LOL!

~Washable Broadline Jumbo Markers – 12 Count: Love these!  I saw them in the bluum shop and adding them to my box was a no-brainer.

All totaled I came up with a value of $35.60 for the April 2015 bluum box!  That doesn’t include the cost of the bluum up items because those aren’t included in the cost of the monthly box either.  I thought this was a solid box, but I didn’t think it was as fantastic as I did at first when I thought EVERYTHING in the box (including the two bluum up items) were part of the box!

Did you get bluum this month?  What was in it and what’d you think?   If you are interested in subscribing or just want to learn more, click here.  And if you are a new customer, you can use the code “SPRINGHALF” (thank you Alicia) to save half off your first box, making it only $14.50.

(*) It’s a long story, but we used to get bluum ages ago when they just did those smaller sample sized boxes for 0-12 month olds. When WB was about 9 months, bluum launched their current box for ages 1+ and was still doing the sample boxes for babies 0-12 months old. I wanted to check out the new, bigger boxes for WB, so I aged him up a few months so he was 1. And he’s still aged up!

I got the shape stacker last month in our 40 month box. My daughter thought the shapes were great but didn’t stack them. They’re all lost now unfortunately. Haha.

This month we got a stuffed cow, some animal cookie cutters, a book, a weird banana powder, and a sesame Street matching game. Kinda of a meh box.

I tried using the code you have posted and it said it had expire, luckily I found another one SPRINGHALF worked for me and was also 50% off! Thanks for the review, i’ve been going back and forth with this one and I loved your review this box looks wonderful! So i finally went for it! I’m sure my son will love it he is 2 yrs and 10 months. I also love their new customization they have!

Your box was so much better than mine! We received two different plates, a bumpkin’s snack bag, Green sprouts disposable compressed wipes and a stuffed whale that’s for the tub. Very meh. Last month they sent me two books so I’m not sure why I keep getting two very similar items with every box. But the plates are good (the one is really nice and will use for a long time) and the rest of the items will get used up as well. It would be nice to get a “wow” box though!
