Second First Look

This is my third Frankie & Albert box and, as a general rule, I will always give a box 3 months to decide if I want to keep the subscription of not. This is the ultimate grab bag – you have NO idea what’s coming in this box!

The Card

The box doesn’t include a detailed information card and instead they sticker each of the items with a code.  The codes are used in the Swap section of the Frankie & Albert site.  If you don’t love something you receive you can swap to out with another subscriber for something you do love.  I still cannot access the Swap section and since it doesn’t appear to be magically fixing itself like I excepted it to be I need to e-mail them.

Here is what my April 2015 Frankie & Albert box contained:

~Jewelite Handheld Mirror: Cute mirror, but I don’t know what I will do with a handheld mirror?  Maybe it’s just something I didn’t know I needed because I didn’t have one.

~Lenox Bowl: The detail on this bowl is gorgeous!  I’m not too sure what type of bowl this is (soup or just decorative), but I like it.

Lenox Bowl

~Gold Bowl: I have a few small bowls for little trinkets so maybe that’s why I am not overly excited by this one.  I do like the detail on it though.

~Black & Gold Mini Pitcher: I wonder what this pitcher was original used for?  It’s super small and *might* hold 4oz of water?  Probably less actually.  Does anyone know?  I would love to learn more!

Black & Gold Mini Pitcher

Since these are thrift store finds I can’t do a price breakdown on this box. While I don’t dislike this box, I think the $49.99 price point is just too high.  If I received items more like the ones I see on their site I think I would stick around, but $49.99 it’s just too high for what I have been getting.

Have you tried Frankie & Albert?  What do you think?  If you are interested in checking them out you can head here and see what they are all about!  And I will make sure I update this when I figure out what’s going on with their swap site.

I think your Lenox bowl is a cery beautiful piece, but this sub is too pricey for the items you have received. The pitcher seems to be one of those old school mini milk pitchers that belongs in a set for when you host and serve coffee/tea to guests, with the mini milk server and mini sugar pot on a tray.
I like this box the best out of your others, but again too expensive for the value and quantity of items you are getting. And what is up woth that swap site?! No bueno.. Hope they get back to you soon and fix that!

A milk creamer! That’s what its called! Lol lol

      1. Jennifer

LOL!!! Whoever uses this must not have a lot of guests!!!

Theres noway that Lenox bowl, is a soup bowl, how will it hold soup?

    1. Jenn

I’m pretty sure Jen meant soap.

      1. Jennifer

No, it’s big! I meant soup. You could probably get a can of campbell’s in there!

I always find this the oddest sub box. I kindof wonder how many they actually do for people? I think besides the price tag being crazy high for what you get the fun for me of getting thrift store finds is the actual finding part of the item. The going into a musty smelling store and looking around until I get that shining light moment and I find the perfect item. Hmm that is probably why I don’t have many of those items in my house since really 1. I don’t like old things 2. I don’t like musty smelling stores and 3 who really has time to do that. LOL

is it…. to serve oysters super fancy??? hahaha 🙂

    1. Linda

My first thought was it looked like an oyster plate too, but I collect oyster plates so maybe that’s why!!

Ugh- three months is generous. It reminds me of garage sale stuff that someone would buy for 50 cents. Personally, I steer clear of garage sales so I’ll steer clear of this box.

  6. Susan

It is probably a creamer for cream to go with coffee.

    1. Jennifer

Okay, now I think it might be a taper candle holder. The inside doesn’t open up at all. It just goes straight down which I didn’t notice before. I totally thought it was a pitcher.

I think there would be more value in this sub if they gave you a history of the curation. I guess that would be hard to do based on how many different items they’re sourcing each month, but it would still be really cool! I liked at the sign up process and I’m curious to know how much they use your pinterest boards and take those into account when they choose items for a subscriber…

I love the idea of this box, because I love thrifting, but at $50 it’s a no for me. That’s not a thrifty price point, IMO, especially when you consider all the Goodwills in AZ have 50% off everything (not just one colored tag) every other Saturday (next one is April 18th for any of your readers in AZ who somehow aren’t aware). I could have found a similar haul to what you received for under $10 I’m sure!

Hi just wanted to say I’ve just discovered subscription boxes and I appreciate your reviews.

I have never heard of Frankie and Albert but I have a habit of browsing thrift stores and several years as a shipping clerk.

You mentioned you thought about $10 an item was a lot. But at least where I am the nicer pieces on thrifts are usually $4 on up. And packing breakables takes more time and care than other items. A lot more. I’m sure they try to get a uniform weight got the boxes but once things are more than a couple of pounds shipping does get expensive.
I don’t know what thier process is and a thrift box isn’t one I’d sub to but this caught my interest due to my shipping clerk experience.
    Thx again for the reviews.
