Hamptons Lane curates an amazing monthly box of artisan foods, kitchen tools, and serveware for the food lover. Boxes are $47/month and are revealed at the beginning of every month. Boxes are created around a monthly theme, such as Southwestern Fiesta, Summer Cocktail, The Best of BBQ, Coastal Italy, etc. Unlike most subscription boxes, you can skip the box if it doesn’t interest you during the first five days of that month.
I receive my Hamptons Lane box a bit early to review, but I believe that their boxes generally ship in the second half of the month.
As I mentioned before Hamptons Lane reveals the contents of the box in advance so you know exactly what you are going to be getting. This is perfect because it basically guarantees you won’t be disappointed!
The April 2015 Hamptons Lane box theme was “Taco Party” and included the following items to help you build the ultimate taco bar with fresh tortillas and authentic Mexican ingredients
~6.5” Cast Aluminum Tortilla Press from Imusa ($19.99): This is yet another kitchen gadget that we do not (or did not until now anyway) own! Hamptons Lane sends out lots of unique kitchen items and has been great for introducing us to new items. This will help you make perfect tortillas every time! I think it’s something the kids will like making with us too!
~Organic Blue Corn Masa Harina from Tortillas de la Tierra & Organic Custom White/Yellow Corn Blend Masa Harina from Tortillas de la Tierra ($7): We have never made homemade tortillas before, but with our new tortilla press and these flours, we are ready! Maybe B will want to do a taco bar for his birthday this weekend.
~Roasted Tomatillo Salsa from D.L. Jardine’s ($6.99): SO GOOD. I snuck a little taste and loved it. It’s not the most attractive to look at, but it tastes amazing. It’s more sweet than spicy (I don’t love spicy salsa), but it’s super flavorful and can be used as a marinade and as a sauce on your tacos.
~La Menchaca Fajita Seasoning from South Texas Spice Company (~$5): I can’t find this for sale anywhere on-line which only makes me like it more. According to the information card it’ll perk up any taco bar and doesn’t just need to be used for fajitas!
~Margarita Salt with Chipotle Chiles from Salt Traders ($12): What’s a taco bar without margaritas? Not as fun that’s for sure. LOL! You can use this for margaritas of course, but you can also use it in guacamole or as a seasoning for your meat.
All totaled I came up with an (estimated) value of $50.98 for the April 2015 Hamptons Lane box. The value is probably a little higher than my estimate because you’d end up paying shipping since a lot of the items aren’t available locally (at least they aren’t near me).
