RawSpiceBar, who kindly sent me this package to review, sends 3-4 hand-picked, small batch, freshly ground spice blends with each monthly box. Each of the blends weigh about 0.5 ounces, which allows you to create a single dish feeding approximately 12-14 people. You will also receive kitchen-tested, detailed recipes and ideas for each spice blend you receive as well as fun gifts and stories about the history and origins of each blend every month.

The Package

RawSpiceBar ships at the beginning of the month via USPS.  Shipments to the US are expected to take between 5 and 7 days, while shipments to Canada may take up to 3 weeks to arrive.

March Theme
The Theme

The March 2015 RawSpiceBar destination was Tehran, Iran – in celebration of the Persian New Year.  Here is what was included:

~Mast-O-Khiar Herbs:These are a blend of dill, mint, organic rose petals & peppercorns and are used to create a traditional Persian yogurt dish, which they also included a recipe for.

~Saffron Threads: Saffron Threads are used on risottos, pilafs or paellas or you can sprinkle on top  of meat and vegetable dishes.  We used ours for the included recipe and it turned out great.  I LOVE that they include recipes for all thee items and don’t use send the spices alone.

~Advieh Khoresht: I have no idea how you pronounce this, but it’s described as a staple of Iranian kitchens. It’s a blend of organic rose petals, cinnamon, green cardamon, angelica, persian lime powder, coriander, cumin and black peppercorns.

~The Meal: I think this was the first time that we used all of our RawSpiceBar spices together.  I don’t know if they have everyone it before, but I hope to see more complete meals like this in the future.  It was so fun to use all of the provided spices and recipes together to have a meal we would probably have never tried otherwise.
