Nina Garcia Quarterly Box Review #NGQ05

Quarterly is a new way to connect with the people you follow and find interesting. Quarterly Co. offers subscription boxes (which are shipped on a quarterly basis) from well known curators which are filled with things they love. This is the (Spring?) Nina Garcia Quarterly Co. box (#NGQ05).  If you aren’t familiar, she’s the Marie Claire Creative Director & Project Runway Judge.  This box is $100/quarter and was supposed to ship back in March , however, it was then pushed into April and finally shipped at the end of the month.  They don’t actually bill you until a few days before they ship though which is nice.

The Box

Quarterly ships via FedEx Smart Post and took just a few days to arrive to me.  This box shipped out of Wisconsin and I am in Michigan so it didn’t have to travel far.

Second First Look

Everything in the box was individually wrapped in special #NGQ05 tissue paper.  I had checked out the spoilers for this one, but it was packed so full that I didn’t even remember what everything was.

The Letter

The Nina Garcia Quarterly box was a luxury haircare themed box and included the following items:

~Shu Uemura’s Art of Hair Volume Maker ($48): This does exactly what the name implies.  It gives your hair volume.  You click the button and powder will start to appear in the brush.  I recommend starting with a little and seeing how it works for you.  This stuff is expensive so I want to stretch mine as long as I can.

~Multipurpose Pro Tools Oval Brush by Harry Josh ($50): I would never pay $50 for a hairbrush, but I do think it made my hair shinier after I used it.

~Living Proof Perfect Hair Day® Night Cap Overnight Perfector ($28): You put this on your hair before bed and it will give you 5 days worth of benefits.  I badly want to try this but I so need to dye my hair first.  It helps protect color and adds shine and gives you more manageable hair overall.

~Sachajuan Hair Repair Cream ($16): I was hoping that this was a leave-in treatment, but it is actually one you apply for 5-10 minutes and then rinse out. I guess I can use it in the shower, but I tend to forget to use these kinds of items.  I do love the brand though and I think they have one of the best sea salt sprays.

~REDKEN Pillow Proof Blow Dry Express Primer ($22): This spray helps to reduce the amount of time it takes to dry your hair.  I try not to dry it too much in the summer anyway, but I will use it when I do.  It also works to protect against heat damage and helps keep your style.

~REDKEN Extreme Length Sealer ($24): Now this is a leave-in treatment and I like that a lot. You apply it to the ends of your hair and it helps to strengthen your hair so it grows as much as possible.  It’s got a little brush on the end so it’s super easy to apply as well.

~L’Oreal Paris Advanced Haircare Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight Straight Perfecting Balm ($5.97): My hair is super straight as it is, but I do have problems with flyways and a little frizz and this helps.

~Serge Normant Travel Instant Volumizing Spray ($15): I love the entire Serge Normant line and think this stuff is fabulous.  It gives you instant volume and is easy to throw in your purse or travel bag.

~Philip Kingsley Elasticizer ($22.50): This is a pre-shampoo mask. You put it on for 10-20 minutes, cover with a plastic cap and then shampoo like normal.  This one gets rave reviews so I am going to have to remember to use it next week.

~Frederick Fekkai PRX REPARATIVES INTENSIVE FORTIFYING MASQUE ($25): I love FF products and don’t know that I have ever used the mask more than once or twice.  This is another one that you leave on for 5-10 minutes and then rinse out.  I want to use these kind of products more, but I don’t leave myself enough time when I am getting ready to do it!

~Carved birch wood hairpin by Masterpeace: While this is cool I can never figure out how to get this to stay in my hair.  I could put it in a pony tail and then use this, but then it’s not quite as cool.  I will probably end up trading this.

~Coupons: The box also included as assortment of coupons and information cards for the products in the box.

The Coupons

All totaled I came up with a value of $256.47 for the Nina Garcia (#NGQ05) Quarterly Co. box.  I knew that this box was going to be hair care themed before I received it (they announced the theme in advance), but I was kind of hoping it would have some other types of stuff.  Maybe a nice travel sized dryer and and more tools.  I don’t know.  I don’t hate the box and will use the majority of the products in it, but I wasn’t wowed by it.

Did you get the Nina Garcia (#NGQ05) Quarterly Co. box?  What did you think?  This box is sold out but the next Nina Garcia Quarterly box will ship in July.
