Mantry (aka the Modern Man’s Pantry) is a food of the month club that lets you discover the finest american artisan foods – and gives you ideas of what to do with them. It’s $75/month and has been around since the Fall of 2012. It’s one of the more expensive subscriptions we get, but B loves it!
Mantry ships via USPS Priority Mail and ships around the 20th of the month.
As always I love the Mantry crate itself. They are made out of real wood and B uses his to hold glasses and cocktail mixes and other stuff in his basement bar.
The June 2015 Mantry theme was “Campfire Cookout” and included the following items:
~Wondermade S’mores Marshmallows ($7.95): I love these! We have received a variety of Wondermade marshmallows in subscription boxes over the years and the s’mores flavor is my favorite. We will be taking these up-north for 4th of July and roasting them over the camp fire.
~Broadbent’s Hickory Smoked Pepper Country Bacon ($7.90): I will never understand how meat can be can shipped just in a package without refrigeration, but it clearly can. Mantry has included Broadbent a few boxes in the past and the boys love it. As soon as B is home for more than 2 minutes he will happily make this for breakfast.
~Mrs. Fearnow’s Delicious Brunswick Stew with Chicken (Hope Farm) ($6.85): The picture of this in the information booklet doesn’t make it look all that tasty, but I suspect it’s amazing. I quite like canned stews, but I feel like most have beef in them and not chicken. The fact that his has chicken in it makes this even better.
~Reginald’s Creamy Cinnamon Molasses Cashew Butter ($8): I was less than excited about this at first, but after tasting it I was glad I gave it a chance. I just tried it straight from the jar, but I suspect it would be even better on toast in the morning. It’s described as cinnamon toast in a jar and I can see that for sure.
~Treehouse Chocolate Co. Drinking Chocolate ($12): I can’t decide if I want to save this winter time or just for a chilly night up-north! Maybe I will split it half and half. The chocolate bars used to make this are sustainably sourced from small Peruvian farms and contain 72% cocao. This is not your normal weak hot chocolate!
~Effie’s Homemade Oatcakes ($6): The name “oatcakes” makes me think I am going to be eating some sort of rice cake with oats in it, but that’s not the case at all. This is more of a cross between a cookie and a cracker. And it’s delicious!
All totaled I came up with a value of $48.70 for the June 2015 Mantry. Of course, I don’t include shipping costs in my prices or the value of the crate, but if you are looking for a “value” box, Mantry isn’t going to be it for you. Mantry is more about the curation and experience. B loves it and that’s all that matters to us with this one (although I wouldn’t be sad if the value was higher).
