NewBeauty TestTube packages everything in a, you guessed it, a tube!  There have been months that everything didn’t fit in the tube, but this was not one of those months.  I hadn’t checked out any spoilers for this box, so I went into it not knowing what to expect.

The Information Book

NewBeauty TestTube includes a great information book with product information, prices, details on where to buy the products, etc.  Here is what was included in the July 2015 shipment:

~Quikee by Supersmile ($18): Quickee is a “whitening treatment that helps protect, beautify and preserve the teeth.”  It works instantly to remove stains and freshen breath without brushing.  In fact, you don’t even need to rinse. It’s a cool item and a totally new product to me. I will be keeping this one in my purse.

~GrandeLASH-MD Grande Mascara (~$5):I wasn’t a big fan of this.  It felt dry and didn’t seem to length my lashes. It gets great reviews though so maybe I just got a bad one?

~Laura Geller Waterproof Eye Spackle Hues ($23): I love that this is called “spackle”.  It doubles as a primer and an eye shadow.  I would probably wear shadow over it though because it is fairly light.  It applied smoothly though and didn’t get all stuck in the creases of my eyelids.

~Balanced Guru Style Me Roots to Ends Hair Oil ($9.50): This is probably my favorite item in the tube.  It smooths hair and adds shine, both of which I love and need.  You don’t have to use a ton of it either, so it’ll last a while.

~IT Cosmetics Brow Power Universal Eyebrow Pencil (Universal Taupe) ($12): I just received this exact product in my June ipsy so I didn’t even both to swatch it. I like the brush side well enough, but I don’t need two so I will either trade this or give it to a friend.

~Ojon Damage Reverse Restorative Conditioner ($10): Subscribers either received this product or the Ojon Rare Blend Protecting Treatment.  I would have preferred the treatment, but that’s only because I like to treat shampoos and conditioners together.  It smells okay, but it’s not anything amazing.

~GlamGlow Youthmud Tinglexfoliate Treatment ($19): I love GlamGlow and I love getting it in subscription boxes.  It looks like actual mud (with seaweed in it) and it makes my feel instantly brighter.

~Wen Cleansing Conditioner (~$8): I estimated the price on this one because there wasn’t a size listed on the bottle.  It smells like mint chocolate chip ice-cream which I do love, but I wish the go-with shampoo was included.  Still it’s good stuff and I will certainly use it. Obviously I skipped over the information card on this because I thought I “got” how it worked.  I was wrong – so wrong.  It’s a 5-in-1 product designed to replace your shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, detangler, and leave-in conditioner.  You’d think I would know this since I have actually purchased WEN on my own a few years ago from QVC. This changes everything!  Except the fact that it smells like mint chocolate chip ice-cream.  That is totally true.

All totaled I came up with a value of $104.50 for the July 2015 NewBeauty TestTube. The value was there and there were a few things in here I loved, but I don’t know, I just wasn’t feeling this month.  I may take a break from NewBeauty TestTube for a few months and pick them back up in the fall or winter.

I’m embarrassed to say that I have watched too many late night Wen informercials…there is no go-with shampoo. It is supposed to take the place of shampoo. It just leaves my straight fine hair greasy.

    1. Jennifer

I am even more embarrassed to say that I have too and have even gone as far as purchasing this on my own. And USING the entire starter kit thing! Good thing I only used this is the shower once so far – with regular shampoo first.

  2. Meredith

I was going to say the same thing about the Wen that Mia did lol. I’ve tried it and the first time it was pretty good but after that it left my hair still looking and feeling dirty. My hair is pretty oily though and straight so I’m probably not the best person to judge.

  3. Jen

I’ve been using wen for 6 months now and I really love it. I do have curly hair that tends to get dry on the ends so it really works well for me. I think it probably depends on your hair type and texture. I thought this Box looked awesome and I have often considered getting it but with it shipping charges it just seems a little expensive.

  4. Michelle

Do you know did they discontinue the QVC new beauty test tube?

    1. Jennifer

      I did not know this!

  5. Carley

Hey just to let you know, Wen is a cleansing conditioner- it’s a 2-in-1 basically. There is no shampoo counterpart. It’s actually a really awesome product that have been on tv shopping networks a lot. I love the stuff. It doesn’t strip your hair like shampoo does and helps hair to retain its natural oils.

    1. Jennifer

Thank you! How did I miss that? Better yet, how did I not remember this because I have actually purchased WEN before? And liked it.

  6. WEN is a shampoo. If you use it as directed (call their customer service number or go online) it works wonders!!! I hoard this stuff… It makes my hair look and feel amazing… Never greasy!!! I order it from qvc all the time.

    1. Jennifer

OMG I am so stupid!!! I have actually bought WEN before too! AHHH!!!! This changes everything.

      1. LOL! You aren’t stupid… You are too funny! FYI, the WEN gallons are on Easy Pay on QVC right now 😉 I was so happy to get this one in my Test Tube. I can honestly say the new summer scent (Coconut Lime Verbena) is ADDICTING. I’m obsessed with the smell! I got the replenishing mist in a 2 oz bottle a week ago, and it’s almost gone because I can’t stop spraying it!!! Plus, it has more peptides in it than most skincare!! (FYI – I swear I do not sell WEN, I feel like the infomercial hehe) 🙂

The comment about there not being a QVC TestTube anymore is interesting. Every product in this box is carried by QVC and I was wondering if it was a “QVC” box that they did not send. I too am a WEN lover and have been for years. I agree that if you use it as directed it will not leave your hair greasy. You do need to thickly saturate the hair and I do it twice. I have long, color-treated, thin hair. WEN leave it with more volume and unfrizzy. I used to have to wash my hair very frequently, now it is clean and fresh for 5 to 6 days. Besides that convenience, my color lasts much longer too! This will be my last TestTube since I’m trying to cut back on subscription boxes…..so I guarantee that at least the next few will be awesome since that always happens when I drop a box! LOL

    1. Jennifer

So you think that means I should keep my subscription??? LOL!

      1. Stephanie Tuttle

Yes! If history repeats itself! LOL I actually liked this box and it made me doubt my decisions, but I”m getting overrun with products! Need to use some up!

    2. Exactly… Wash it once with a thick amount (you can’t use a little, even though you want to because it’s so expensive). Then you rinse and use the same amount for your second cleanse and keep it on your hair for the remainder of your shower before rinsing it out. Then use one pump as a leave-in on wet hair right before you step out of the shower. I embarrassingly watch QVC 24/7, so I should be a WEN spokeswoman. 😉

      1. Stephanie Tuttle

Ha, ha! I often have it on as background chatter. I live not far from the studio and avoid the store since I can drop so much money so fast! LOL I have the same WEN routine, except my hair is thin and I fare better when I don’t do that conditioning dollop at the end, but one of my neighbors swears by that. Because I am washing my hair so much less frequently and don’t need two products, I don’t find it that much more expensive….especially if you buy the gallons that is on sale at QVC right now.

        1. OMGEEEE, I am so jealous — I have always secretly wanted to work there!! lol
I have it on as background noise all the time since I live alone… Sadly, it makes me want WAY too much stuff!!!! I have self-control, but not when it comes to beauty 😉

  8. I actually canceled before this tube but now I’m thinking it looks good!! I would have been.stoked if I had gotten this in the mail, especially after over a years worth of junk tubes!!! Debating if I should go for it hmmm

  9. HeatherP

This looks like a great one! I have had Wen and because it made my hair very greasy looking i used it more as a conditioner on the bottom of my hair and some shampoo on top. At the same time.
Love your nail polish in the swatch pic!!!

    1. Jennifer

Thank you! And yes, you did spy an Apple Watch in that other picture. I am obsessed with it!!!

      1. HeatherP

Oohhhh i thought so! Maybe one day you can toss in a review of the watch haha. I have been back and forth on it so many times. Maybe you can share some intel on why i need one. The way i kind of see it right now, i have an iphone. I have a fitbit and fitness trackers. Im not sure i need an apple watch , it almost seems redundant. And i like fancy watches too, i wear my fitbit in hidden places of it doesnt match a nice outfit. So i talked myself out of apple watch but im very open to new reasons why i shouldnt shut the door.

  10. Rebecca F.

I love WEN, too. But after things got tight financially for a few months I started trying other cleansing conditioners. There are a lot out there that are much cheaper and do a good job. L’Oreal even makes one. I suggest that unless you have money to splurge on WEN try out some of the less expensive cleansing conditioners first to see if it is something you like and your hair does well with. WEN does have the best scents, though! I buy WEN when I can afford it and then treat myself every so often to a couple weeks of happy scent and smooth hair then stash it in the closet and bring it out again in a few months. It’s my living large hair product, lol. If you don’t want buy it from WEN or QVC they have it on Amazon and at Sephora.

    1. Krista

I have also tried WEN, like many i loved it the first time i tried it, I have super thick, wavy hair and it is very dry, so I assumed.. bad thing, I know… that it would leav emy hair great, only worked once well.. after that.. I found i had to wash my hair daily for it to NOT be greasey and oily, for someone with super long ( wasit length hair) that can go 3-4 days in between washing it bcause it is so dry, I was very disappointed with WEN… great smells though!
Just doesn’t seem to work as well without the shampooing part first, I sort of cheat- great detangler- so i use it first, then wash it out….lol

      Krista

  11. cheryl

Not loving this box unfortunately. The Wen, Laura Geller and Ojon were in QVC test tubes 1-2 years ago, so I wonder about how old these products are.

    1. They aren’t old products. Just because they are the same brands, doesn’t mean they are the same products, scents, or colors.

  12. Crystal

So I received my box today and I was a little worried when I saw your review because I had already received the spackle primer awhile ago but much to my surprise I had a full side Dr Brand Pores No More Center $35! I also received the leave in treatment. That was the only difference in my box. But even my pamphlet listed the Dr Brandt, so who knows? But I’m very happy! But I will say that I have been a subscriber for a very long time and this is my second tube of the cleanser haha if that tells you how long lol … I’m not sure why I received this box since my card expired and I didn’t update it lol but it was a better box then what we were getting! 🙂

    1. Crystal

Oh my goodness auto correct! Lol …..Dr Brandt Pores No More Cleanser Full Size! Lol

  13. Krista

I have used when off and on for a year, like you, the first time i used it i was in love with it, then i noticed it made my hair look like i hadn;t washed it in several days, greasy, lanky, which for someone with hip length hair and very think, it take as a LONG time for my hair to get that oily, I think it works best if i use it to de-tangle my hair, and then use a shampoo, or i only use it once a week, it seems to build up fast on certain types of hair, i really wonder if the formula is different.
Not as happy with the WEN as i used to be

    1. Jennifer

This is so dumb, but do you think the formulas are different on the different scents? I swear I didn’t have this issue a few years ago on the “original” or whatever it was, but the mint I feel like makes it like you said – like I haven’t washed it in days.
