Pony Brand Coffee delivers fresh roasted coffee right to your door. You can opt for bi-weekly or monthly deliveries and can select whole bean, course ground, medium grind or fine grind varieties. Your first box will begin with a 4×4 Coffee Sampler (which is what this review is on) so you can sample and become familiar with their coffee and find the one that is the best fit for you.

The Tasting Sheet

Pony Brand Coffee includes a tasting sheet in your 4×4 Coffee Sampler Box.  The idea is to try all of the coffees and then jot down some notes to determine your favorite(s).  I like my coffee with lots of cream so I am not the best one to give you my thoughts on flavors and that sort of thing.  B would be better at it, but he’s not here!  So I decided to instead just showcase the coffees in the box and give details on what you’d get if you signed up for the sampler.  Here are the coffees included:

~Light & Crisp (Costa Rica): Light & Crisp is described as “floral, citrus and tea-like”.  It’s from the Santa Elena farm in Costa Rica and has flavors “reminiscent of Madagascan dark chocolate and Thai lemongrass”.

~Sweet & Juicy (Guatemala): Sweet & Juicy is from the Fedepma Coop in Guatemala and is described as “candied, berry and syrupy”. It has notes of black cherry, wild chocolate and toasted sugar with a little ginger mixed in.

~Rich & Creamy (Nicaragua): Rich & Creamy is from Las Segovias in Nicaragua and is described as “chocolate, nut-like and buttery”.  And is supposed to taste like pecan pie.  Of all the coffees in the box, this is the one I would go for first or order in a coffee shop.

~Calendar Blend: The current calendar blend is a “strong, bold and balanced” blend and is said to taste like smoked dark chocolate.

Since these blends are all unique to Pony Brand Coffee I couldn’t do a cost breakdown on this box.  But for $20 per delivery you get 1lb of the coffee of your choice.  Whatever that breaks down to per cup though (I tried to do the math and then gave up) is far less than what you’d spend at a coffee shop!
