1. What is your favorite comfort food? Mine is so ice-cream. I love it. It may be because I spent so many years slinging ice-cream at the Dairy Queen in high-school / college, but I am obsessed with it. I like all flavors really, but that Ben & Jerry’s Salted Caramel Core? OMG. Incredible. Best ice-cream on the planet.
2. How do you celebrate your birthday? Do you have any special traditions? My birthday is tomorrow (yay!) and while I don’t have any celebrations planned this year or extra special traditions, I want to hear about yours! B will be out of town (it’s not the first birthday of mine he’s missed and it will not be the last either I am sure), so the kids (and my extra kids this week) will probably go out to eat and maybe get some fancy cupcakes? That sounds like a good plan to me. If you have any special traditions or if there is a certain birthday gift you get everyday, please share!
We’ve pretty much led the exact same life … I worked at Dairy Queen all through high school, went on to be an accountant, and have two little boys. Hahaha. That cracks me up!
Hmm not sure about comfort food but I could sit down and eat a whole bag of Reeses Chips Ahoy 😉
I don’t do much for my birthday on the actual day. We always seem to have so much else going on in March. My boys will always get me a cake from the store and then the boys usually have something little for me. One of the weekend around my birthday I do ship the boys to my mom’s house and I have my friends over to scrap for the whole weekend. This year since I turned 40 one of my friends had a little party at her house for me but nothing overly crazy and just our group hanging out. It was perfect and so very me.
I fully agree with that Ben and Jerrys ice-cream with the caramel core as being one of the top favorites. I dont think anything can replace my love for Breyers mint chocolate chip, tho, too many fun memories i associate with that particular one.
My comfort food is Mexican food. All of it. I just love it.
We have never done anything for my birthday, I mean party or such. But I always do special goodies for the kids that day. This year I made the rainbow cake (box mix) It was soooooo sweet and gooey and messy but super fun and the kids loved making it with me. Low key fun.
If we’re going out it’s definitely Mexican (TexMex) food, my husband knows not to ask where I want to go eat unless he’s craving Mexican food. If I cook it it’s either roast or lasagna.
We usually go eat out somewhere nice and maybe go watch a movie, our birthdays are 10 days apart, so we share our “party.” My husband wants another Yeti this year though (he already has one, but wants a bigger one) and I may give in if he’ll agree to the Tiffany blue Yeti! It’s all about compromise!
Happy birthday!
Love that Ben and Jerry’s salted caramel core too! There is one with a cookie core that was really good too. We usually go out to eat for my birthday, birthday person gets to pick the place.
I think it is easier for me to name things that are NOT comfort foods. Or maybe I am hungry right now. Because I can’t decide among:
*Ben & Jerry’s chocolate fudge brownie
*Reese’s peanut butter cup Blizzards from DQ
*Reese’s peanut butter eggs
*deep fried onion rings
*cheese (especially Gorgonzola or aged Gouda)
*macaroni and cheese
*Mexican food
*nacho cheese Doritos
*most flavors of Lay’s potato chips
*Cheez-Its
Um, I could go on but I forgot my original point. It’s a wonder I don’t weigh 500 pounds.
Have a Happy Birthday! Love reading your reviews!
I have an obsession with Pepperidge Farm Goldfish for some reason. I don’t know, they just taste amazing to me. I love visiting friends with small children because they always have them in stock! And I’ve been known to steal goldfish from toddlers toddling around by sandwich baggies full.
You should try the Stauffers brand Whales! They’re soo good, I think they taste better than Goldfish. Same concept but much cheaper- the $1 spot at Target usually has them.
I will TOTALLY check them out, thanks! 🙂
My comfort foods are more savory- macaroni and cheese (has to be stouffers though) and/or mashed potatoes. The Stouffers mac & cheese always reminds me of my grandma, who I was very close with up until she went senile and then died. Brownies too, but there’s no way I’ll be baking anything for the next couple of months. I try not to eat comfort food though because eating my emotions is what made me overweight, lol. And while I’ve lost some of it, there’s still plenty of extra lbs I need to get rid of.
I don’t really care about my birthday. We usually go out for dinner, sometimes with my whole family since there are a couple birthdays in May + mother’s day. This year, my birthday was on mother’s day so we didn’t go out to eat on my birthday because I’m sure all of the restaurants were packed. I always say I’m going to get ALL the birthday freebies, but Sephora’s is pretty much the only one I always get. Cost Plus World Market gave me a 15% off coupon, but I didn’t use it before it expired.
Mac and Cheese. Cheesey. With maybe a bit of burnt cheese on top. Yeah. Comfort.
Happy Birthday! We honestly don’t do anything traditional. We go to my favorite sushi joint if possible but nothing really that we do year after year.
Haagen Dazs – Bailey’s was my favorite – they switch them a lot. I also go for ruffles chips with Helluva Good Dip (red container) total comfort food.
Birthday – always seems like we’re packing or unpacking around my birthday. But I will enjoy me time in the hammock with wine or mojitos
Our tradition is that if it’s your birthday, you’re queen/king for a day. You get to order people around, and everyone tries to do little things for your comfort. Other people have to pick up after you and do your chores and can’t complain about it. You can do things that normally might irritate others, like blast your favorite music or leave out dirty dishes. You can insist people address you as ‘your majesty’ or stand when you enter a room, or whatever you like. Of course, the more insufferable you are on your birthday, the worse people will be when it’s their turn! Everyone around here gets a kick out of this tradition, it even overshadows presents and cake.
Now this is a tradition!!!! I was cracking up reading this! I bet birthday’s at your house are so fun!
