International Box of Blessings July 2015

International Blessings, who kindly sent me this Box of Blessings to review, states that their mission is to empower 3rd world artisans by selling and promoting their handmade products, which then helps to create sustainable livelihoods and eliminate poverty around the world. Each Box of Blessings will have 3-4 pieces of jewelry or other handcrafted products made by impoverished people around the world.

First Look

I couldn’t tell too much from the first look.  As usual though, the box itself was tiny and quite light, but that doesn’t mean too much with this box.

The Information Card

Box of Blessings includes information cards about each item in the box along with a card about the partner this month. The July featured partner is Charity Water.  Their goal is to bring clean safe drinking water to every person in the world. Here is what was included in the July Box of Blessings:

~Coco Asymmetrical Earrings (Ecuador): These earrings were handmade in Ecuador through Minga Imports. Their goal is to improve education and increase public knowledge of fair trade.  I don’t know that these earrings are my style really, but I do love how unique and well crafted they are.

~Tagua Rock Bracelet (Ecuador): Each stone in this bracelet is hand carved, dyed and polished.  I would assume there were variations in the colors of the bracelets sent out, but I think the purple is fabulous.

~Leather Bookmark (Kenya): I love this!  It’s easily my favorite item in the box. This bookmark is so colorful and fun.

~Friendship Bracelet (Philippines): These bracelets were originally sold to by an economically oppressed family to prevent their daughter from having to choose prostitution to support her family.  This has turned into a ministry that now supports over 600 people. I remember spending hours making friendship bracelets like these and I smiled when I saw this.

I couldn’t do an actual cost breakdown on this box (I never can though), but it works out to an average of $8 per item which isn’t too bad at all!
