Not much to look at here. This is only my second month with Prospurly, but I am already impressed with their packaging and presentation.
The July 2015 Prospurly box theme was “Bonfires and Barbecues” and included the following items to help you sit back, relax and enjoy the season:
~McFadden Farms Organic Grilling Herbs ($5): This seasoning works on all of your favorite grilled dishes. It’s got a “semi-hot” kick and is made with organic garlic, onion, black pepper, rosemary, basil, oregano and just a touch of chili flakes.
~Your Wingman Honey BBQ Sauce ($7): Your Wingman (love the name) makes their sauce by hand in super-small batches. It contains Portland Ketchup, molasses, white vinegar, local honey, Dijon mustard, kosher salt and garlic. I don’t know what B will use this on, but it sounds delicious.
~Larry’s Bag-Of-Smoke ($4.95): Larry hand-fills his bags-of-smoke at home in Katy, Texas and has been for 25 years! To use these you poke a few holes in the bags, soak for 2 minutes and then place on a plate directly on your grill grate. We have bbq’ed with wood chips and have a smoker box but have never done it in a bag. It should be fun to try.
~Skin by Pom CLNS Cleanser ($15): When I saw the spoiler I wondered how this related to the theme, but the card notes that smoky bonfires and barbecues can put a lot of particulates on your face. And this will help you keep your skin clean and feeling great. I love getting cleanser in boxes and thought this was a nice one. It left my skin feeling nice and smooth, but wasn’t too harsh. It smells pretty good too. It’s made with coconut, willow bark, sencha green tea and fence gravy sea salt.
~Vicara Refresh Aroma Face Mist ($12): This is a facial mist designed to leave you refreshed and uplifted! It’s handmade with Oregon lavender, sweet orange, lemon, sandalwood and witch hazel so not only does it refresh you, but it smells good too. I bet this would be amazing if you popped it in the fridge for an hour or so prior to using it.
~Solid Maple Wood Muddler ($24.95): I couldn’t verify the price for this one because I don’t know the brand, so I had to use the price from the information card. I think it seems expensive for a muddler (maple or not), but I could be wrong. This will be a good addition to B’s bar that’s for sure.
~Lot 450 Citronella Candle Mason Jar ($16): These candles are handcrafted with responsibly sourced palm wax, pesticide + herbicide free and natural soybean oil and a wood wick for longer burning. It smells like, well, citronella, but if it keeps the bugs away then I am all for it!
All totaled I came up with a value of $84.90 for the July 2015 Prospurly. It worked out to about double the cost of the box and while I liked this box and their selections, I wasn’t blown away by it. I am, however, thrilled that all the brands in this box are new to me. That’s the best part of subscription boxes – being introduced and trying new products.
