Dottiebox Mini August 2015 Subscription Box

Dottiebox is a monthly subscription box full of high quality handmade items for women, from both small businesses and indie brands.  They offer their standard Dottiebox which is $26/month and a Dottiebox Mini subscription, which is $13/month.  I did a review on the August (full-sized) Dottiebox (you can find that here) and now it’s time for the Dottiebox Mini review.

The Box

Dottiebox (and Dottiebox Mini) ship via USPS.  The full-sized box ships during the first week of the month while the mini box ships more towards mid-month.

First Look

The first look gave me no idea what was in this box.  The brands are announced in advance online, but you don’t know exactly what items you will receive until the box arrives.

The Information Card

The August 2015 Dottiebox Mini included the following items:

~Spruce & Fresh Soap Bar ($8): The packaging on this is so pretty that I am going to give it as a gift.  I can smell it through the paper and it’s amazing!

~Koco and Viking Necklace ($18):  I am guessing a variety of different messages were sent out, but I think this one is perfect.  It’s on an 18′ chain so it’s longer which I think is perfect for this necklace.

~Dottiebox Drink Koozie: Dottiebox didn’t assign a value to this so I am assuming it is a special extra. I think it’s cute and fun and who doesn’t need an extra koozie in the summer.

All totaled I came up with a value of $26 for the August 2015 Dottiebox Mini. That’s double the cost of the box and doesn’t even include the koozie.

Did you get a Dottiebox Mini this month?  What’d you think?  August boxes are still available, so if you are interested in ordering one, click here.

Hi Jennifer, is there a way for me to email you directly, or can you email me? Also, I had commented on another post, and I’m searching for the best subscription box… I’m on a tight budget and currently subscribe to ipsy & birchbox, which I really like (especially Birchbox), but I have tried GlossyBox and TestTube and like them both (I think GlossyBox is my favorite of those two, just because of the billing being regular & free shipping, but my first TestTube was amazing, so I’m still not sure, ha!)… I’d like to either stop ipsy or Birchbox and get a higher end subscription; one that is close to equal to the two combined plus $20-$25, or stop both and get one even better. Can you advise? Thank you! 🙂

I swear I commented and recommended checking out BOXYCHARM? That is the same price point ($21) as GLOSSYBOX and they put together a great box! You can always e-mail me too though: jennifer@ramblingsofasuburbanmom.com

I think that the necklace should read “led” instead of “lead”…??

  3. Lindi

Nancy M. – I am also struggling with the face the necklace says lead instead of led.

    1. Lindi

and by face I mean fact! lol

Thank you Jennifer! I’m very sorry, you did tell me that but I forgot about it! I’ll definitely email you soon, I really appreciate you! As for the necklace, it absolutely should be “led”! That would bother me, I wouldn’t want to wear it with the improper grammar, as pretty as the necklace is!

This is one of my favorite subscriptions, but I can’t get over the “lead” instead of “led” on the necklace. There is no way I could wear this!

    1. Jennifer

I thought it looked wrong, but I am no grammar expert (as evidenced by the numerous errors I make), so I didn’t think I should comment! I did a little googling and found people using it both ways??

  6. Nancy M.

“Lead” is definitely a mistake, no matter how you look at it, it absolutely makes no sense–if people are still using it it’s because they either don’t care or don’t know any better. I don’t get this box , but if I did I would ask for an exchange/replacement– just the teacher in me…

  7. Kyla

Fully agree! For $18 they need to learn grammar before printing up necklaces. I could never wear that. I’m subscribing to the full size Dottiebox, and I hope they don’t make mistakes like that in that one.

  8. Kai

I had to look into it, even though I knew it wasn’t correct, and this is what I found… Basically every grammar website explained it like this; “The verb lead makes led in the past tense and as a past participle. Writers often mistakenly use lead in these roles, perhaps due to erroneous analogy with the verb read, which is uninflected.” Makes sense. Just food for thought.

    Hi Jennifer,

Thank you so much for your review. I am the hands and heart of koco & viking and cannot put into words how incredibly devastated I am about our necklace. I was given the phrase by a friend, who happens to be a school principal, and I didn’t realize it was incorrect. Honestly, I didn’t think twice about it due to her being one of the most educated people I know! I spoke to her and she said that it can be used interchangeably depending on context. I’m sure that means nothing to those that are already disgusted by it and have trashed it by now.

I wish that I was a larger company that could afford to replace everyone’s necklace, but I can’t. However, I would like to offer those that are here a replacement of any of my quote necklaces for only $5 (shipping included). Should anyone like to take me up on the offer, please contact me through our website.

Those that say hurtful comments need to remember that I am a person. I make mistakes. I am, sincerely, sorry that anyone hates their necklace. Please offer me some grace and allow me to make it right.

Thank you all for supporting Dottiebox and the handmade community!

    Most warmly,
    Jasmine
