Koala Crate August 2015 Subscription Box

Koala Crate is from Kiwi Crate’s new(ish) line of crates and is designed for preschoolers ages 3-4.  The box includes all the materials and inspiration for projects related to a theme such as colors, transportation or safari. Crates are designed to give children exposure to new materials and new concepts that encourage hands-on learning and fun.

The Box

Koala Crate ships via FedEx Smart Post and took about a week to arrive.

First Look

I have three subscriptions within the Kiwi Crate family and they all actually arrived in one large box this month.  Normally they come separate (and at separate times) so it was fun getting them all together.

The Information Booklet

The August 2015 Koala Crate theme was “reptiles” and included three projects “stuffed snake friend”, “color-changing chameleon” and “turtle box”.

Project #1 – Stuffed Snake Friend

Project #1 – Stuffed Snake Friend – The Materials

The first project we worked on was “My Snake Friend”.  In this project you were given all of the material necessary to make your own soft and cuddle snake friend.  It was low on the messiness scale, medium on the grownup involvement scale and involved “creating” and “moving – fine”.

Project #1 – Stuffed Snake Friend – In Process

WB wasn’t overly excited about stuffing the snake so I did that and he decorated.  I think we make a good team.  No sewing was involved with this one – you just flipped the flap over after you stuffed it and you were done.  The shapes just stick on too!

Project #1 – Stuffed Snake Friend – The Final Project

I am not totally sure what we are going to do with this guy now, but I know we’re keeping him!  If the boys ever ask for a pet snake (which I am sure they will), I will remind them we already have this guy.

Project #2 – Color Changing Chameleon

The second project of the group was “Color-Changing Chameleon” and included all of the items needed to catch some cardboard bugs with a cute chameleon. The project was low on the messiness scale, medium on the grownup involvement scale and involved “exploring” and “discovering”.

Party!
It really changed colors.

WB loved this project.  Knocking down the bugs with the the party horn? OMG maybe the best thing ever.  And we were all impressed that the chameleon really did change color when it got warm.  Super neat.

Project #3 – Color Changing Chameleon – The Final Product

I really thought this would end up being the WB’s least favorite project of the bunch, but it turned out to be his favorite!

Project #3 – Turtle Box

Project #3 – Turtle Box – The Materials

The third (and final) project in the box was Turtle Box which includes the materials you needed to create a turtle box to hide your special treasures.  The project was low on the messiness scale, medium on the grown-up involvement scale and involved “moving – fine” and “creating”.

Creating

WB decorated the top of this box and I put the turtle on it. The instructions suggested using the hexagon stickers to make a pattern on the lid of the box, but WB just did his own thing.

Project #3 – Turtle Box – The Finished Product

I think this will end up storing some of WB’s favorite things right now – cars.  He loves stashing them anywhere he can and this should fit a few.

imagine!

Koala Crate also includes the imagine! magazine.  “imagine!” includes stories, mazes and other fun activities relating to the theme. It’s a great addition to the crate and allows you to continue with the theme long after you have finished the projects.

What do you think of Koala Crate? I love that Kiwi Crate branched out into some different ages groups because this one is just right for WB.  We love it!  If you are interested in subscribing you can sign up here and use the coupon code “SHARE10” to save $10 off your first box!
