Two questions today…
1. How much vacation time do you get at work? I just finished reading an article about how LinkedIn is offering unlimited vacation (sort of) time to their employees and it got me wondering, what’s the norm these days? When I worked I got 3 weeks of vacation and I used every bit of those! Between actual vacations, sick kids (L used to get sick ALL the time when he was little) and whatever else, those days get eaten up fast. How many vacation days / hours do you get? Do you use them all?
2. Where do you get your news from? Websites? Morning Talk Shows? Local News Broadcasts? National News Broadcasts? Or a combination of everything? I try and watch my local news daily and also check CNN.com a few times a day. I get the CNN Alerts sent to my phone too. Oh and I read (well browse) my local newspaper online as well. I should probably read more, but there is only so much time!
1. 240 hours + 110 hours and I bank any overtime to take in time off as well but this is after 25 years on the job. We work 2 days 24 hours off 2 nights 4 days off so if you take that block you get 12 days off. We have to use it all or they assign it to us. I’ve been on off on long term sick leave this past year so I have no idea
2. Internet, some days I’ll watch some morning tv, I watch local news at 6pm or 11pm – I get local alerts and CNN on my phone. I read the local paper online before bed
1. I work part time, so I don’t get vacation time… my husband gets roughly 4 weeks so I just base my days off on his vacation days.
2. The only time I “keep up” with the news is during election years, other than that my husband keeps me informed. He’s a news buff, so I don’t miss out on much.
1. I earn up to 6 weeks a year. I got that being her 5 years. I started off with 4 weeks. This includes my sick time and vacation time. I can use it for whatever I feel like and if I don’t use it, it gets rolled over to next year. Right now I have 180 hrs banked.
2. I check Fox News once a day. And that is about it. The news depresses me.
I currently get 24 days vacation and 12 sick days with an extra week of at Christmas. It is a good amount but I accrue monthly so it never feels like I have that much (I use it, I need more!)!
I get 4 weeks vacation, 5 dependent care days (for sick kids) and 3 personal days. With 3 kids, I usually have taken all 5 of the dependent care days by June, so end up using some vacation for sick kids during the 2nd half of the year. I use every single one of my days and would love it if I could buy another week or two, but unfortunately they don’t allow that. I don’t understand how people with kids can possibly bank any days.
I pretty much get unlimited vacation time. It’s unpaid, but once I’ve been there a year I’ll start earning paid vacation. I’m assuming I’ll still be able to vacation without pay even then. This is the first job I’ve had that lets you take unpaid vacation and I’m stoked. My boyfriend gets unlimited vacation as well, only his is paid since he’s salaried. We both love the companies we work for, and the vacation policies are an added bonus.
I usually watch the morning local news. Sometimes I’ll check out CNN.com too.
1. I work PT so no vacation time
2. Sadly, I receive no tv reception and I chose not to have cable, so I get my news from The SKIMM daily news to my inbox basically our world news not local. I need to find an online source for my local news I like.
When I worked I got 3 weeks but I could also bank time and/or take time without pay and I used all that I could get. M gets 5 weeks and he can carry over 2 weeks each year so since he has done that he pretty much has 7 weeks a year if he used it all. LOL that is personal time so he doesn’t have separate days if he gets sick but really he has way to much. We were just looking to see how he could use what he needs to by the end of the year.
I usually have the local news on in the morning and then GMA while we are getting ready. I get my local news push notifications to my phone so if something major happens it comes across there and then I glance over the local paper online about once a day too.
I get about 6 weeks a year of PTO (vacation and sick leave rolled into one). I rarely take any, so it rolls over. We are able to roll over 200 hours each year and lose the rest, so you can’t accrue too much at one time.
The nice thing is that I had about 8 weeks of PTO before going in for my recent surgery. I will be out for about 6 weeks and feel totally confident that I have plenty of time off.
I rarely watch the news but will read the newspaper sometimes. I usually get any news online
I am a professor so I get two months of summer vacation on top of the holidays like Christmas break and spring break.
You MUST sign up for theSkimm. You will love it. Here is the link: http://www.theskimm.com/?r=22YVK
This is how I get most of my news in the morning and it is great way when you are on the go to stay informed and read up more on whatever topics interest you. Trust me, you will love it and look forward to reading it every morning.
I’m a stay-at-home mom, so I don’t get any official vacation time (obviously lol).
I start out by checking what news stories are trending on Twitter and Facebook, clicking on links and will usually end up on the Huffington Post, CNN or Gawker. I also check Dlisted everyday (I love my celeb gossip), and Michael K will often post about big news stories.
I work full-time and am not 100% on how much time I get off a year. Of course, I only work 15 days a month (12 hour shifts) so I work less days anyway. We make something like 3 hours of vacation every paycheck. I’ve got the equivalent of about 2 weeks saved up so far. Gonna use it to go see my bf in Detroit 🙂
I check npr on a semi-regular basis as well as buzzfeed (their articles are pretty great), facebook, and just random news links depending on my interests.
Sigh, I only get 2 weeks of vacation per year, officially. However, I work in a really small office and no one really keeps track. It’s more about the optics of trying not to be perceived as being out too much. I don’t get any official sick time either, but same thing – it’s more about being perceived as being responsible and a hard worker, etc.
I love the Skimm for my news too! Second that!
