Mickey Monthly October 2015 Subscription Box Review
Mickey Monthly October 2015 Subscription Box

Mickey Monthly is an unofficial Disney subscription box. The following three box options are available: Snack Only Box, Monthly Combo Box and Souvenir Only Box. The Snack Only Box which includes monthly snacks and treats directly from Disney World. The Snack Only Box comes in three sizes: Yummy Essentials ($39.99/month and 3-4 snacks), Twice as Nice ($49.99/month and 4-6 snacks), Kingdom Cravers ($74.99/month and 6-9 snacks). The Monthly Combo Box is a combination of snacks and souvenirs from Disney World. It also comes in three sizes: Simple Combo ($39.99/month), Mickey Sized ($59.99/month) and Mother Load ($84.99/month) and include 4-12 items customized for your preferences. The Souvenir Only Box includes monthly souvenirs from Disney World and again is available in three sizes. Pixie Sized ($39.99/month), Just Right ($49.99/month) and Want It All ($74.99/month). Sizes range from 3+ items to 6+ items and will include a variety of magical souvenirs both big and small. Mickey Monthly also offers one-time only boxes and Limited Edition Boxes which are available once a month on the 1st of the month until they sell out.  I subscribe to the Souvenir Only – “Just Right” box.

The Box

Mickey Monthly ships via USPS twice a month. Members who signed up between the 1st and 15th will receive their box the last week of the same month. Members who signed up between the 16th and the end of the month will receive their box the second week of the following month. All future shipments will arrive about the same time every month.

First Look

Mickey Monthly notes in their FAQ that they are NOT able to provide $60 worth of merchandise in a $59.99 box.  They buy the items at retail prices from the Disney parks and then have to take into account travel time, shipping costs, paypal fees, etc.  They note that you can expect about $40 worth of items in a $59.99 box.  I appreciate that they clearly note this on their website so you aren’t surprised when you try and add up the costs from your box. All that said I didn’t know what to expect, but I knew it wasn’t going to be a “value” box.  It’s more of an experience box.  My October 2015 Souvenir Only – “Just Right” ($49.99) box contained the following items:

~Board Walk Resort Postcard (~$1): I am not exactly sure who I would send a Disney hotel postcard to considering that I am not at Disney?  It’s a great looking hotel (and it’s in a great location), but unless I actually stayed there or was there, I wouldn’t send this.

~Mickey Pen ($9.95): WB and I loved this pen!  It’s got little balls (or something) in the Mickey head that shake all around when you write!

~Monsters, Inc. Collectible Figures ($15.95): The Disney Parks price tag on this says $15.95, but that seems like a complete steal to me!  Seven Disney figures for $16?  That’s something I wish my kids would pick out at the park! LOL!  We all love Monsters, Inc. and will likely end up using these as bath toys for WB.

All totaled I came up with a value of $26.90 for the October 2015 Mickey Monthly.  I have enjoyed the majority of the items I received in this box, but at the end of the day it’s just not enough product for my liking.  I know they note that the product value will not meet the cost of the box, but I would still expect it to be a bit higher.  We gave this one a chance for a few months and I think it’s time to check out something else now.
