Two questions today…
1. Those of you who dye your hair, what products do you use to keep your color? I have been dying my hair a more reddish color lately and I am having the WORST time trying to keep the color in my hair. What’s the secret here? I haven’t had an issue with highlights or dark browns or anything else. But red? It’s all over my white towels for like a week after I dye my hair. Are there special red hair products I should be using? Or is that just how it is with red hair dyes?
2. When do you start decorating for the holidays? I am pretty sure I ask this every year, but I am always curious. I haven’t taken down my Halloween decorations yet, but I know that as soon as I do, I will want my Christmas stuff up! Minus the tree though because we get a real one and that’d never last two months. I don’t have any Thanksgiving decorations so the house always looks so empty in that in between period. When do you start decorating? When does your tree go up?
1. The molecules in red haircolor are larger and therefore slip out of the cuticle quicker.Try some red shampoo and conditioner to maintain the color… like this http://www.sallybeauty.com/red-hair-shampoo/QUNTUM15,default,pd.html. John Freida also make some I believe if you just want to find it at your local drug store. That and wash and rinse with COLD WATER, it seals the cuticle making the molecules harder to slip out… plus SHINIER, which is always nice! That’s the only successful advice I have ever been able to give clients regarding maintaining red haircolor. It’s THE hardest color to maintain. And regarding the “bleeding”, it should stop after a week or so of washing, use a dark colored towel until it’s done bleeding out… the cold washing should also help with this.
2. I don’t decorate for Christmas until after Thanksgiving is over, that’s how my mom did it and it has stuck with me.
The firm rule at my place is Christmas decorations cannot go up until the day after Thanksgiving. I can buy stuff before then, but they cannot go up until then. As I’ve recently started getting live Christmas trees this is really important as I don’t think they would make it all the way to Christmas otherwise, lol.
#1 , i am a hair stylist , and also have been coloring my hair for awhile with different reds , let me tell you its just one of those colors that are very hard to keep in the hair, but also very hard to get out of the hair ( if its been applied multiple times) . try washing your hair less and less , become better friends with dry shampoo is the biggest thing lol . i had to re do my red about every 5 weeks before. its beautiful and one of my most complimented color but its a bitch haha
#2 i honestly like to start decorating a week before thanksgiving , this year i wanna do it earlier lol but were moving december 15th so i can’t do too much I’m gonna have to go buy a small tree to use so we don’t put up our huge one
My hair is blue right now. It’s been fun-colored for a while now and I’ve learned some tricks to keeping it vibrant. I wash it very rarely, once, maybe twice a week. I use beauty Protector shampoo, not the conditioner though since it has sulfates though I still have a ton of their oil sample from BB, rinse in cold water. I don’t let my hair bristles touch my scalp, a lady at a health foods store told me that trick, it helps prevent my hair from getting greasy.
I don’t usually decorate until after Thanksgiving but I probably won’t decorate at all since we’re not doing Christmas at our house this year.
Lol, I HATE decorating. Hate it. I grew up in a house where my mother went all out every single year, from top to bottom, inside and out and it was always so. much. work. So, now that I’m an adult, I prefer to look at other people’s decorations, lol. My husband usually buys wreaths and garlands and a tree, but he is only slightly less apathetic than I am. Whenever we host Christmas, my cousins arrive a couple of days early and decorate my whole house in a whirlwind. Lol, they’re great.
Well, I actually hate decorating, but I love the finished result!!
1) I have never dyed my hair red, so I really don’t know.
2) I would prefer we not decorate until after Thanksgiving, but my husband goes all out with Christmas decorations, and is planning to start on it this coming weekend, yes, Nov. 8th. It’s crazy, I know. However, in his defense, our town has a decorating contest with cash prizes, and the judging is Dec. 1st. So, he wants plenty of time to get everything ready. Last year, he won 1st place, so he was pretty happy.
1- Red is the hardest color to keep vibrant. I use Pantene most of the time, but a couple of times a week, I use color saver type shampoos. I am not sure if it helps or not. I get my hair done every 8 weeks on the dot, so I think that helps.
2- I decorate the day after Thanksgiving. I have cats, so the inside of the house waits until the week before Christmas.
Our rule is no Christmas decorations until Santa comes through at the end of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Then it is officially the Christmas season. 🙂
We usually don’t officially decorate until Thanksgiving weekend. However, this weekend was so beautiful outside that we did put the outdoor Christmas lights up on the deck. We will not turn them on until Thanksgiving though.
Framesi Color Lover. I would swear by it. You’ll have to get it at a salon that uses Framesi products but it will do the trick.
You should layer. Put fall decorations in place first and then come back with Halloween on top then you can pick up the Halloween decor and have fall out a bit longer. It will give you the sense of a freshened change without inviting Christmas in too early.
I don’t dye me hair color, but I dye my braiding hair extensions for a different look.
