RawSpiceBar November 2015 Subscription Box

RawSpiceBar, who kindly sent me this package to review, sends 3-4 hand-picked, small batch, freshly ground spice blends with each monthly box. Each of the blends weigh about 0.5 ounces, which allows you to create a single dish feeding approximately 12-14 people. You will also receive kitchen-tested, detailed recipes and ideas for each spice blend you receive as well as fun gifts and stories about the history and origins of each blend every month.

The Package

RawSpiceBar ships at the beginning of the month via USPS.  Shipments to the US are expected to take between 5 and 7 days, while shipments to Canada may take up to 3 weeks to arrive.

The Theme

The November 2015 RawSpiceBar featured the following items:

~Berbere: The recipe included with this spice is for Berbere Roasted Carrots, Fennel & Mint.  That sounds like it could be quite a unique side dish for a holiday get together.  I am not a fan of fennel, but I could eat around that.

Berbere

~Pumpkin Pie Spice: You’d think they’d suggest just throwing this in a pie, but nope, they include a recipe for Ethiopian pumpkin spice ricotta donuts, which sound fabulous don’t they?   If I had ricotta cheese (or could remember to grab it at the store), I would make these immediately!  I think I will actually run to the store tonight and pick some up.  These sound amazing.  I am assuming I can find honey vegetable oil at the grocery store too?  This isn’t a specialty item is it?

Pumpkin Pie Spice

~Ethiopian Mitmita: The included recipe for this spice is for a Spicy Ethiopian Stewed Beef or Key Wat.  It actually uses the Ethiopian Mitmita and the Berbere.  This is the only recipe I am not sure about. I suspect B will be interested in trying it though.  I love that they include recipes for all their included spices.  It saves so much time!
