Petit Vour January 2016 Subscription Box Review
Petit Vour January 2016 Subscription Box Review

Petit Vour is a monthly subscription box of cruelty-free beauty products, hand-picked from businesses that align quality with progressive standards. Boxes are $15/month and they do an excellent job making sure that the value well exceeds the cost.

The Box

Petit Vour ships via USPS and takes only a few days to arrive. Boxes (generally) ship in batches between the 15th and 20th of the month.

First Look

Petit Vour boxes are similar in size to Birchbox boxes.

The Information Card

The January 2016 Petit Vour theme was “do good, be well” and included the following items:

~Evelyn Iona Gel Liner + Brush Set ($22): The liner brush is full-sized, but the gel liner itself is just a sample. I am trusting the value on the information card because there is no size listed on the bottle. I don’t wear eyeliner on a regular basis, but even if I did my hands just are not steady enough for a gel liner. However, this can also be used as an eyebrow filler, which may come in handy.

~S.W. Basics Mini Cream (0.7oz / 22g) ($12): Okay, so I generally love S.W. Basics products and have tried this cream in the past. It contains just three ingredients (Fair Trade Shea Butter, Coconut Oil & Olive Oil) and works amazing. All that said though, there is something up with the cream that was in this box. It smells kind of like farm animals. I checked the PV Facebook page to see if anyone else had this issue and it’s not just mine. Someone described it as smelling like rancid milk.Either way it’s not a good smell. This was completely sealed so I am not sure what happened, but I will update when I hear more.  ETA: I spoke with Petit Vour who directed me to Lizzy at S.W. Basics (lizzy@swbasicsofbk.com).  It sounds like the batch of this cream was made with a different olive oil than they typically use and noted that is what is causing the stronger than normal scent.  They offered to send me a new mini cream when they come back in stock.  I offered to send my cream back to them so they could check it out in person.  Hopefully they can figure out what the issue was and make sure it doesn’t happen again going forward.

~French Girl Organics Rose Lip Polish (0.25oz / 7g) ($4): Now this smells great! You scoop some on your lips, scrub and then rinse with warm water. It’s 100% vegan and made out of 100% plant ingredients.

~Kaia Naturals Bamboo Tapioca Beads (.18oz / 5g) ($4.42): This is a daily exfoliating cleanser made from 100% natural ingredients: coconut, chickpeas, deep cleansing clay and a touch of tapioca to absorb oil.  It’s very gentle and smells awesome. It also works as a mask (leave on for 10 minutes).  I like this so much I will likely end up buying the full-size!

All totaled I came up with a value of $42.42 for the January 2016 Petit Vour box.  A good value, but as I mentioned there is an issue with the cream. I will update as soon as I hear something!
