Birchbox offers 4-6 (sometimes more) hand-picked beauty and lifestyle samples, delivered to your door each month. You can review the samples you receive on a monthly basis to earn points in their shop, which makes the “real” cost of the box even less. Points accumulate until you are ready to spend, so you can stockpile and combine with coupon codes to get some complete steals (which I try to do). I have been subscribing to Birchbox for over 3 years now and would say they are one of the most (maybe the most) well-known subscription boxes out there.
Birchbox ships via USPS and all boxes generally ship by the 10th of the month. Both of my boxes shipped before then this month though (the last few months actually).
Since I have two accounts I generally opt for that month’s curated box on one account and opt for the standard Birchbox on the other account. This review is on the February 2016 “What’s the Occasion?” Birchbox. You can check out my review on the curated box option here.
My February 2016 Birchbox included the following items:
~L’Oréal Professionnel Mythic Oil Nourishing Masque (2.5oz) ($13.81): This masque is ideal for all hair types and is designed to target dehydrated ends. My ends are actually looking pretty good right now, but I did notice that this left my hair shinier and it just looked healthier overall. You only need to leave it on for 3 minutes which is key for me. I am sure lots of those masks that you leave on for 20 minutes are fantastic, but I don’t have the patience.
~Marcelle New·Age 8 in 1 Power Serum (0.23fl.oz) ($8.28): This is a very gel like serum. According to the notes, it starts to work after just weeks and smooths, fills, visibly reduces deep wrinkles, firms, lifts, and strengthens, while working to boost radiance and improve the texture of your complexion. It’s also parablen, gluten and fragrance-free. It’s too early to tell if my skin likes it, but I really like the texture and how smooth it makes my skin feel. So far, so good.
~Oscar de la Renta Flor Eau de Parfum (.06fl.oz) ($2.52): This scent has top notes of fresh-picked mango and lush neroli, finishing with base notes of creamy musk. I love it! It’s light and sweet and just beautiful. The sample is tiny, but it has a sprayer which I love. I am not huge on the open top perfume samples because I worry they will spill in my purse, so this is great.
~POP Beauty Matte Velvet Lipstix – Satin Rose (full-size) ($8): Meh. I am not overly excited by lipsticks in general and this is just really pink. I will pass this one on to a friend.
~REN Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask (15mL) ($16.50): This was my Sample Choice selection this month. It’s a great sized sample (I can probably get 10+ uses out of it) and made my skin glow. For real. It’s thick (like almost honey) and basically like magic. I will be buying the full-size for sure. One note – this is not recommended on skin that’s sensitive or irritated.
All totaled I came up with a value of $49.11 for my February 2016 Birchbox. Including the points I get for purchasing the box (10 points = $1 to spend in the Birchbox Shop) and reviewing / sharing the items in the box (60 points = $6), the value increases to $56.11. I was shocked that this box had such a high value. I am head over heels for the REN mask and the rest is just icing on the cake!
Have you gotten your Birchbox yet this month? What’d you think? If you are interested in subscribing, new customers can use the coupon code “”MALLYGIFT” to get a free Mally Evercolor Shadow Stick in Copper Rose (a $25 value) with any new Birchbox subscription purchase.
Did you happen to notice that occasion was misspelled on the info card? It hurt my heart to think of how many went out misspelled. Maybe it just mine. 🙂
I got the exact same box! The lipstick is really dry. I guess it says matte velvet, but I did not like it.
