Birchbox offers 4-6 (sometimes more) hand-picked beauty and lifestyle samples, delivered to your door each month. You can review the samples you receive on a monthly basis to earn points in their shop, which makes the “real” cost of the box even less. Points accumulate until you are ready to spend, so you can stockpile and combine with coupon codes to get some complete steals (which I try to do). I have been subscribing to Birchbox for almost 4 years now and would say they are one of the most (maybe the most) well known subscription boxes out there. They are certainly one of the longest lasting boxes.
Birchbox ships via USPS and all boxes generally ship by the 10th of the month.
Since I have two accounts I generally opt for that month’s curated box on one account and opt for the standard Birchbox on the other account. This review is on the March 2016 “Ladies First” Birchbox. You can check out my review on the curated box option here.
It looks like Birchbox is starting to put a thin layer of foam between the box and the tissue paper in all of their boxes to help protect items during shipping.
My March 2016 Birchbox included the following items:
~Acure Organics Cell Stimulating Facial Mask (1fl.oz) ($5.71): Acure products are vegan, sulfate-free, cruelty-free, paraben-free , silicone-free and won’t clog your pores. This mask is similar to a mud mask, but it’s green. It’s smooth, not gritty and works to shed away weekly dirt and grime. I absolutely love the entire Acure line and was thrilled to see this in here. I used up a previous sample I had received in a box and will be restarting with this sample tonight.
~Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser (1fl.oz) ($3.90): Before I discovered subscription boxes, Kiehls used to be my go to skin care line. This ultra-facial cleanser contains apricot kernel and avocado oils to hydrate and smooth skin. I am going to throw it in my travel bag along with my Ultra Facial Cream from this month’s curated Birchbox.
~PARLOR® by Jeff Chastain Volumizing & Texturizing Shampoo (30mL) ($2.80) & PARLOR® by Jeff Chastain Volumizing & Texturizing Conditioner (12mL) ($1.12): The PARLOR Shampoo was my sample choice selection this month. It’s not my favorite Shampoo (I normally just stick with drugstore shampoos), but it smells good and it does the job. As a bonus, Birchbox also included the PARLOR Conditioner in the box. I feel like to properly try a shampoo, you gotta try the conditioner too. And vice-versa.
~Pinrose Moonlight Gypsy & Pinrose Pillowtalk Poet: These are super small samples (think like 1/8 of a handi-wipe) so I didn’t assign a value to them. Of the two I prefer the Moonlight Gypsy, which is a blend of enchanting cardamon and orange blossom. The Pillowtalk is a blend of fresh powder and musk and was just too strong for me.
~trèStiQue Color & Smudge Shadow Crayon (Aspen Pine) (~$10): This shadow crayon is super creamy and stays on for 12 hours. I received the “Aspen Pine” color which is really more brown than green. It’s gorgeous and a very wearable color.
All totaled I came up with a value of $23.53 for the March Birchbox “Ladies First” box. Including the points I get for purchasing the box (10 points = $1 to spend in the Birchbox Shop) and reviewing / sharing the items in the box (80 points = $8), the value increases to $31.53. A seven item Birchbox is always a win for me and while this may not have been the highest valued Birchbox ever, I absolutely loved it!
Have you gotten your Birchbox yet this month? What’d you think? If you are interested in subscribing, new customers can use the coupon code “EYEKOGIFT” to get a free Eyeko Fat Liquid Liner with all new Birchbox subscription purchases.
Really hope bb is not putting foam in the boxes. That is so very bad for the environment.
