Koala Crate March 2016 Subscription Box Review + Coupon Code
Koala Crate is from Kiwi Crate’s line of crates and is designed for preschoolers ages 3-4.  The box includes all the materials and inspiration for projects related to a theme such as colors, transportation or safari. Crates are designed to give children exposure to new materials and new concepts that encourage hands-on learning and fun.

Koala Crate ships via FedEx Smart Post and took about a week to arrive. Sometimes they ship mid-month and sometimes they ship closer to the end of the month.

The March 2016 Koala Crate theme was “Wind” and included three projects “wind car”, “windsock” and “weather chart”.

Project #1 – “Wind Car”:

Wind car included the materials necessary to build a wind-powered car and experiment to see how fast it could go. The project involved “creating” and “discovering”. It was high on the messiness scale and medium on the grown-up involvement scale.

W (my 3 year-old) wasn’t overly interested in coloring the sails, so it wasn’t a messy project for us.  We had fun testing out the sails and found that paper one with the slits in it worked best for us.  W had a hard time getting it to move on his own with the fan, but we probably should have done it on the wood floor and not the tile because it kept getting stuck in the grout.

Project #2 – Windsock

The second project we worked on was creating a friendly windsock to help discover how the wind moves. This project involved “moving – fine” and “creating”.  It was high on the messiness scale and medium on the grown-up involvement scale.

We loved this one!  W had me do most of decorating, but he put the ribbons on the bottom and couldn’t wait to go outside and test it out!  Luckily it was fairly windy so the ribbons got moving pretty well!  We need to find a good place to hang this outside so we can enjoy it all summer.

Project #3 – Weather Chart

The final project in the box was Weather Chart which allows you to observe and learn about the wind with your own weather chart.  It involved “discovering” and “communicating”.  It was low on the messiness scale and medium on the grown-up involvement scale.

This was another great one.  We are going to keep this in the house and try to remember to update it everyday.  The stickers are reusable and peel on and off super easily.  Very cute!

imagine! Magazine

As usual, the box also contained an “imagine!” magazine. It has puzzles, stories, games and other project idea relating to this month’s theme.

What do you think of Koala Crate? I love that Kiwi Crate branched out into some different ages groups because this one is just right for W.  If you are interested in subscribing you can sign up here and use coupon code “SBR50” to save 50% off your first month.
