Mantry March 2016 Subscription Box Review "Cabin Fever"
Mantry (aka the Modern Man’s Pantry) is a bi-monthly food club that lets you discover the finest American artisan foods – and gives you ideas of what to do with them.  Mantry has recently made some changes and has decreased (yes, decreased) the price of their boxes from $75 to $49.  Boxes will now ship bi-monthly instead of monthly.  Going forward, only the first month will ship in a wooden crate and will also include a Welcome Pack valued at $55.  Subsequent months will be shipped in an envelope mailer.

I do love the Mantry wooden crates, but I think these new changes to their subscription are even better.  Plus, we subscribed to Mantry for so long that we have plenty of wood crates.

The March 2016 Mantry theme was “Cabin Fever” and included items to keep you comforted and eating well should you get snowed-in.

In addition to product information, the card also includes recipes and gorgeous pictures of the items you can make with the included products.  They also post additional recipes online. The box included the following items:

~Laurie & Sons Black Licorice Toffee ($6): This toffee contains black licorice, fresh ground star anise, Hawaiian lava salt and a dash of Pernod. I liked the chocolate / toffee part, but I couldn’t get into the Black Licorice flavor.  That’s just me though.  I think their Dark Chocolate Sea Salt one would be absolutely amazing.

~Cocoa Sante Hot Chocolate ($8): We are on a little break from hot chocolate weather right now, but it will be back in full force again soon I am sure. We received the sampler which included one packet of each of the flavors (Azteca, Nor-Easter, Kashmir Spice and Parisien) Cocoa Sante offers.  All sound delicious and I almost (almost) want another snow storm to hit so I can snuggle up in a blanket and drink one of these.

~Dave’s Coffee Ethiopian Sidamo Coffee ($11.95): This smells AMAZING!  The website includes a recipe for Irish Coffee which sounds pretty good right now.  The coffee has notes of cocoa and citrus and is a medium roast.  This will be at work with B (my husband) before I know it.

~Ranchline All Natural Lamb Ch’Arki ($6.99): Ch’Arki is a lamb jerky.  It’s free of nitrates and contains no added MSG.  In addition, it’s gluten-free, high-protein, low fat and low calorie.  Ranchline uses only the finest cuts of lamb for their jerky, which is made in the USA.  Mantry sends jerky on a somewhat regular basis and B loves getting it.

~Eliot’s Adult Nut Butters Honey Chipotle Peanut Butter ($8.99): This peanut butter has a little kick to it, but it’s good.  Really good.  Pair it with apples and you’ve got an amazing snack on your hands.  The information card shows a recipe for a Grilled Honey Chipotle Peanut Butter and Berry Pasilla Jam Sandwich.  That sounds good, but as odd as it sounds I also think this would be amazing on a burger.

~Primo Specialty Foods Berry Pasilla Jam ($9): I am pretty boring and mainly like preserves and jam on toast, but every once in a while I will get an urge for a roast beef sandwich with some preserves on it.  It may sound odd, but it’s delicious.  This berry preserve contains raspberries and blackberries and is tart and sweet and very satisfying!

Welcome Pack: One of the new changes with Mantry is that now your first box will contain a Welcome Pack.  This pack contains a free 3-month membership to Salted TV (a video cooking school), Mantry coasters ($6), a free magazine subscription – your choice ($15) and a packet of Alaska Pure Salt ($6).  B was ridiculously excited about this salt.  I am not even kidding, it is the best sea salt ever.  Mantry sent it in a box a while back and we’ve loved it ever since.  The Welcome Pack has a value of $55 and, again, is free with your first Mantry box.

All totaled the March 2016 “Cabin Fever” Mantry has a value of $50.93.  I didn’t include the $55 Welcome Packet in that value, which obviously would have boosted the value even higher.  I love the curation of Mantry boxes and think this new lower price point is going to be a game changer for them.  I am resubscribing ASAP!

What do you think of Mantry?  Do you like the changes they have made?  If you are interested in ordering or want to learn more, you can check them out here.

I mix sriracha and peanut butter and put it on burgers all the time… it’s amazing! I wouldn’t hesitate for a minutes to put that on a burger. 🙂
