My April 2016 MyBookBox, which featured a Women’s Fiction and Children 8-12 book, included the following:
~The Mechanical Mind of John Coggin ($15.29): This was the MyBookBox selection for my almost 8 year-old. It’s probably one we will end up reading together and that’s totally fine with me. They also included a few puzzles that relate to the book which we loved.
From Amazon:
Roald Dahl meets The Penderwicks in this quirky, humorous, whimsical, and heartwarming middle grade debut about two siblings who run away from home to escape working in the family coffin business.
John Coggin is no ordinary boy. He is devising an invention that nobody has ever seen before, something that just might change the world, or at least make life a little bit better for him and his little sister, Page. But that’s only when he can sneak a break from his loathsome job—building coffins for the family business under the beady gaze of his cruel Great-Aunt Beauregard.
When Great-Aunt Beauregard informs John that she’s going to make him a permanent partner in Coggin Family Coffins—and train Page to be an undertaker—John and Page hit the road. Before long, they’ve fallen in with a host of colorful characters, all of whom, like John and Page, are in search of a place they can call home. But home isn’t something you find so much as something you fight for, and John soon realizes that he and Page are in for the fight of their lives.
~Always the Bridesmaid by Lindsey Kelk ($13.21): This is totally a book I would have selected for myself. I am actually surprised I hadn’t heard of it!
From Amazon:
The hilarious new summer bestseller from Lindsey Kelk, bestselling author of the I Heart series.
Everyone loves a bridesmaid – except Maddie, who’s perpetually asked to be one.
Everyone loves a wedding – except Maddie’s best friend, who’s getting divorced.
And everyone loves the way Maddie’s so happy behind the scenes – except Maddie herself.
One best friend is in wedding countdown while the other heads for marriage meltdown. And as Maddie juggles her best chance at promotion in years with bridezilla texts and late-night counselling sessions, she starts to wonder – is it time to stop being the bridesmaid?
~Design Originals Color Fun Coloring Book ($4.99): My box also included a Color Fun coloring book and a small box of colored pencils. I actually thought it was going to be just books, so this was a fun surprise.
~Tote Bag: This is one of the neatest tote bags I have seen! It folds up super easily and has little snaps on the sides that keep it perfectly closed.
From what I can tell the value of the April 2016 MyBookBox was just about, or slightly under, the cost of the box. I used Amazon prices, not retail though. I thought the curation was great and I think this might be one of the only (the only) box that allows you to select from two different book genres.
