Birchbox Man July 2016 Subscription Box Review - "Made in the Shade"
Birchbox Man (as pictured here) is $20/month and sends you monthly deliveries of deluxe grooming and lifestyle samples, tailored to your profile. With Birchbox Man you can try cult brands, up-and-coming lines, and everything in between.

They have also just launched Birchbox Man Beta! It’s $10/month and contains four deluxe samples from a single grooming category, like shave cream, cologne, moisturizer, etc. These categories are selected according to the online profile you fill out at the start of your membership.  It sounds like if you are already signed for up the Lifestyle Box (which I am) you will continue to receive that box.  If you new to Birchbox, you can opt for the new Birchbox Man Beta or you can e-mail them (beta@birchbox.com) to get subscribed to the original Lifestyle Box.

For some reason I can’t find any information about the new $10 Birchbox Man box on their site right now. It seems to flip-flop between the $10 box and the $20/box.  I will keep you posted if Birchbox makes a final decision on which box will be the new monthly box.

Birchbox Man ships via USPS (through Newgistics) and generally arrives during the first few days of the month or the last few days or the previous month.

Birchbox Man used to offer a curated box option (much like Birchbox does for their Women’s boxes), however, this is no longer the case.

The July 2016 Birchbox Man theme was “Made in the Shade” and included the following items:

~Kiehl’s Ultimate Brushless Shave Cream – White Eagle (0.5fl.oz) ($1.60): This shave cream has “cooling menthol and emollient sesame oil”.  It’s smells pretty good and B will certainly need it when he gets back from his trip and has to shave again.

~Baxter of California Under Eye Complex (3mL) ($3.73): This eye cream aims to fight wrinkles, dark circles and puffiness. I tested it quickly and could almost feel it working.  A little goes a long way and I thought it absorbed quickly into my skin.

~Hanz de Fuko Gravity Paste (No Size Listed) (~$3):  This does hold your hair, but it smells a bit like toothpaste, which I don’t exactly love.  It’s a little shiny too, but I don’t mind that at all.

~Harry’s Daily Face Wash (Samples): These packets contain enough for one use each, so I don’t know how much B will really be able to tell about this. The face wash itself isn’t very expensive ($7 for the full-size), so I wish they would have included a larger sample. Anyway, it contains volcanic rock for gentle exfoliation, plus eucalyptus and peppermint to cool.  Sounds good, but again I wish the sample was larger.

~ICNY Packable Backpack ($50): Well, this is cooler than I expected it to be.  I was thrown by the $50 price tag (that seems quite steep for a nylon backpack), but it’s such a cool design.  It has a waterproof body and 3M reflective panel on the front. It’s also very easy to pack and unpack, which I wasn’t expecting either.  This alone makes the box more than worth it.

All totaled I came up with a value of $58.33 for the July 2016 Birchbox Man. Including the points for purchasing the box (20 points = $2) and the points for reviewing the products (60 points = $6), the real value of this box is $66.33.  Sadly this is the last month (actually August might be the last month for Birchbox Man) to review Birchbox samples for points due to the changes they made to the program.  I will stick with the box though because I love the lifestyle items they offer!
