1. When do your kids / kids in your area go back to school? I have been noticing on Facebook that it’s Back to School time for some kids already! The majority of students in Michigan (mine included) don’t go back to school until after Labor Day, so we’ve got plenty of summer left. When do students in your area go back to school?
2. What book are you reading right now? This is one of my favorite Two on Tuesday questions and now that I am obsessed with my Kindle, I need more recommendations than ever. I’m on the waiting list for a few books through my Library(One Less Problem Without You, and Truly Madly Guilty to name two), but I would love some recommendations from you all too!
Can’t wait to hear your answers!
I just finished Lilac Girls and highly recommend it. It’s similar to Sarah’s Key and the Nightingale.
Kids here in saint Louis go back August 16! When I was growing up here though we never started before labor day either.
Here in Indiana kids in my town start school August 9th.
If you are an Amazon Prime member, you can buy (for free) one of 6 selections a month for free. To keep forever. http://smile.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=sr_1_1_acs_h_1?ie=UTF8&nodeId=201376210&qid=1469540137&sr=8-1-acs
Plus, they have the lenders library where you can borrow one book a month on your kindle from a much larger selection. http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=200757120
Ohh, this is good to know! I knew about the Lenders Library, but I didn’t know about the 6 selections. Thank you!!
My kids head back on August 8th, but our school lets out around May 25th. Still seems like a short summer. I don’t know when I’ll ever have time to read again.
I’m reading a BOTM called Shrill. I like it, but it’s not my fave. I’m in 2 book-clubs, which really is too much, but it keeps me reading a lot. Last month we read Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger. Sort of like Stand by Me. It’s not something I would have ever picked up on my own and I really liked it.
I am currently reading the Lion’s Game by Nelson Demille, and it is so good! The topic is a little intense (the main character works for the fictional anti-terrorism task force) but it is humorous at the same time. It’s really good! In terms of light reading, I love the Cobbled Quilt series by Marie Bostwick.
I don’t know which Kindle you have, but have you used Overdrive to download books from your local library? Hoopla is another great library app where you can download audio books which are nice to listen to around the house or when you’re driving. Another app is Zinio which lets you download magazines (so awesome) for free and they stay on your kindle forever (i.e. don’t expire).
Teachers go back Thursday and the kids next Wednesday (Aug 3). But the students were done May 20th. I think it probably balances out in time, but it’s just too hot down here to be back in school. I’m on the car ramp in the mornings and afternoons and I’m already a stinky, sweaty mess by 8am.
I’ve been on a YA reading kick lately – The Serpent King, My Lady Jane, The Raven Cycle, The Grisha Trilogy.
My kids finish school on the last week of may and they are going back to school on August 22 (Texas), the summer is going to fast, and this year my girl is starting kinder while the boy is starting 5th year, I am afraid of this year :S
About reading, I have a couple of books in my queue but I am holding until July 31st when HP is coming out hehehehe, I know I will finish it super fast but I am excited for those 3 days (tops) of happiness.
Did you see the new preview for Teen Mom OG?? I saw you mention you were ready for it last week! August 22nd!!!
My kid is grown and no more school functions, PTA, field trip, Prom ect. I’m slowly reading 121 First Dates by Wendy Newman that I received in the SinglesSwag box. She’s my age and it’s all about online dating and navigating the waters of dating.
1. Students in my county here in KY go back August 6. The date gets earlier every year.
2. I’m reading LaRose: A Novel by Louise Erdrich. I’m just getting started but it’s very good so far.
Homeschool. So, we will go back when the weather turns!
The Kitchen House.
The kids in Southern Arkansas usually start back about the 3rd week of August. Same of us grad students too.
Being in grad school prevents my enjoyment of reading for fun. After I graduate next year Im so getting a Kindle and getting back into reading. I started using Audible to help with my 45 min drive to and from work and I love it. I would have never thought I’d like being read too. I’m currently listening to Happiness for Beginners by Katherine Center so far it’s pretty good. Molly Harper just released new book today so I’m off to download it in a few. I love her writing style and the narrator Amanda Ronconi is awesome.
My kids go back the week before Labor Day for the first time this year!!
I just read One True Loves and After I Do by Taylor Jenkins Reid and loved them both!!!
I think you know mine are already in school. They go through this week and then will be tracked out for the next 3 weeks and then back in then. It has been so hot here I’ve been happy that they have some place to go.
I just finished reading Timebound by Rysa Walker. It isn’t my normal paranormal romance and more of a YA story mystery. There are some more books to the series so I need to get the next one so I can keep going.
I think kids go back to school here mid August. I know our Godson starts college about that time (waaaaah, they grow up so quick). I will know when school starts because traffic will become hideous here.
Just finished Rich and Pretty by Rumaan Alam. Our book club was so so on this book. Currently reading The Woman I Wanted to Be by Diane Von Furstenberg. Interesting but, not a page turner. Still looking for the fun summer read myself!
