SoBakeable is a monthly baking subscription box. Your box includes your SoBakeable recipe, weighed and measured ingredients, everything you need to decorate your bake and some extra tools to help you make your bake perfect!

Each month’s SoBakeable subscription box or individual box is shipped via USPS by the 12th of each month & should arrive between the 12th-15th of the month.  Orders made on or before the 11th of the Month will receive that month’s box. Any orders made on or after the 12th of the month will receive the next month’s box.

The August 2016 SoBakeable “bake” was “Salted Caramel Brownies”.

Instruction Booklet

Ingredients

The box included the majority of the ingredients necessary for the bake. It did not, however, include butter, eggs or parchment paper.  I assumed I would need butter and eggs, so I had those ready, but I did not have any parchment paper (I subbed buttered up tin foil, and it was fine).  I wish the information card had a clear “You Will Need” section (instead of just figuring it out as you are reading the directions) so you could quickly glance at it and determine what items to have ready. ETA: The information booklet does have a What You Need section which I clearly overlooked

Brownies: I snapped during my baking, so I have a ton of pictures of the process.    Everything was fairly straightforward here.  The first step was to melt butter and chocolate chips in a bowl over boiling water.  Everything after that was just mixing ingredients together. Super easy right?

Chocolate Planks
: Making the chocolate planks is where things started to get difficult.  It was just melted chocolate with sea salt and gold flakes, but it had to be chilled and cut into rectangles.  Parchment paper probably would have helped, but I managed to get a few semi-decent ones out of it.  The cutting took included in the box helped. They all did taste amazing though ;).

Frosting:  The frosting was a powdered sugar mixture, butter, and caramel.  I used my Kitchen-Aid to mix it, but the information card said you could also use hand mixers.

Assembly
: This is where things got difficult.  I think my first issue was that I didn’t let my brownies cool enough before cutting.   I thought 45 minutes would be okay, but I think I needed more.  I probably should have cooked them longer too. My real issue though was getting the frosting in cute little dollops on the brownie and then on top of the chocolate planks. It just didn’t work like I thought it would.  It all tastes the same (delicious), but I wish it looked a bit better.

The  SoBakeable Salted Caramel Brownies were delicious, but they took forever to make!  I have never spent so much time making brownies in my entire life.  I definitely wouldn’t  categorize this as a money saving subscription, but if you like to bake and don’t have time to shop / hunt down recipes, this may be one for you.
