The October 2016 Bokksu theme was “Autumn Appetite” and included the following items:
~Golden Sweet Potato Cake: B didn’t like these a much as I did. They are a sweet potato cake with hints of rum and cinnamon. It’s a dense cake and very yummy.
~Honey Glazed Apple Pie: This mini apple pie is soft and flakey and a great snack size. I think it was B’s favorite item in the box. I am iffy on packaged snacks like this with fruit filling, but he enjoyed it.
~20th Century Pear Langues de Chat: When I see a green filling, I think mint, but this is actually a pear filling. It’s different. The cookie itself was buttery and delicious, but that pear filling will take some getting used to.
~Hazelnut Cafe Rusk: According to the information card, a rusk is a twice baked baguette commonly topped with sweets. The one is flavored with hazelnut and coffee. My husband wasn’t a huge fan, but he didn’t dislike them either. I think they’d be better if they were softer.
~Persimmon Monaka: These were a no from both B and myself. The pastry part is fine, but the persimmon filling (a sweet and tangy fruit) isn’t for us.
~Apple Green Tea: Bokksu includes a tea pairing with every box. This months was an apple green tea. It’s a blend of premium Sencha green tea with crisp, sweet apples and aromatic rose petals.
