Koala Crate October 2016 Subscription Box Review + Coupon Code

Koala Crate is from Kiwi Crate’s line of crates and is designed for preschoolers ages 3-4.  The box includes all the materials and inspiration for projects related to a theme such as colors, transportation or safari. Crates are designed to give children exposure to new materials and new concepts that encourage hands-on learning and fun.

Koala Crate ships via FedEx Smart Post and usually takes about a week to arrive to me.

The October 2016 Koala Crate theme is “Nature” and included three projects “scavenger hunt box”, “discovery tools” and “nature notes”.

Scavenger Hunt Box

“scavenger hunt box” included all of the materials needed to make a box that’s perfect for a nature scavenger hunt.  It was low on the messiness scale, high on the grownup involvement scale and involved “creating” and “moving – fine”.

It was raining (and cold) when we (my 4 year-old and I) worked on our scavenger hunt, so instead of using one of the nature cards, we just used the “color” card.  Both of the boys (I have an 8 year-old as well) went hunting around the house to find things to include in here.  They had a ball!

Project #2 – Discovery Tools

The second project in the box was “discovery tools”.  It included all of the materials necessary to create a frog measuring tape to use with your other discovery tools.  It was low on the messiness scale, medium on the grownup involvement scale and involved “moving – fine” and “exploring”.

I thought making the frog measuring tape box was a little tricky, but once it was all together W had a ball with it.  He measured everything and happily investigated some leaves I brought it from outside.

Nature Notes

The third (and final) project in the box was “nature notes” which gave you a notebook to fill with nature rubbing and all sorts of nature activities.

Again since it was rainy we focused mainly on the nature rubbings and not on the outdoor exploring for this one (we’ll get to that when things dry out).  Again, both of the boys were super into this.  They used the little plates and made the coolest etchings!

imagine! Magazine

As usual, the box also contained an “imagine!” magazine. It has puzzles, stories, games and other project idea relating to this month’s theme
