Doodle Crate is one of the new(er) lines in the Kiwi Crate family. Designed for girls ages 9-16, Doodle Crate includes all the materials and inspiration for DIY projects such as patterned pouches, friendship bracelets, or colorful candles. Crates encourage girls to tackle new challenges and gain creative confidence!
Doodle Crate ships via FedEx Smart Post and usually takes about a week to arrive to me.
I am far from a teen / tween, but I subscribe to Doodle Crate for myself. I find the projects to be (fairly) simple and fun to do.
The November 2016 Doodle Crate explored the technique “Metal Punching” and included the materials necessary to make your own Punched Metal Dry Erase Board.
Step #1 – Design Your Board
The first step was to design your board. I used templates provided in the crate, but you could design your own as well. I did the pineapple on one and a paisley design on the other one. You needed to make two metal punchboards – one for each side of your dry-erase board. I used tape to secure them to the metal sheets and then got to work.
Step #2 – Punch Your Design
The key to this step was to make sure you were punching firmly enough. I put my metal sheet on the of my Doodle Crate box and just made sure to punch all the way through the metal sheet and the box.
Step #3 – Assemble The Board
This is where things got a little tricky. LOL! I just couldn’t follow the instructions. Granted I was watching the UM – OSU game while I was doing this, so that may explain it. I didn’t think it was going to work until I remembered the fasteners that came with it. The instructions gave details on how to make sure you didn’t end up with your design upside down, but, well, this happened. LOL! It shouldn’t be hard to switch, but if you don’t pay attention, this is what happens ;).
I had fun doing this one, but I’m not sure how much of a dry erase board it is? The writing looks a little funny over the punched designs, but still a fun project!
