I am far from a teen/tween, but I subscribe to Doodle Crate for myself.  I find the projects to be (fairly) simple, fun to do and relaxing.

The January 2017 Doodle Crate explored the technique “Color Mixing” and included the materials necessary to make your own Painted Wall Hanging.

Materials

The box included a color wheel spinner, coloring mixing palettes, a paint brush, a palette knife, gouache paint, fabric strips, perforated art sheets, an assembly guide, brads, a branch, leaves, a mess mat and more.

Step #1 – Mix Your Colors

The first step was to mix your colors.  We received Red, Blue, Yellow, Black, and White.  W, my 4-year-old, helped me mix all the colors and paint, which *might* be why I don’t have any pictures of the process.  LOL!  We used only Red, Blue, and Yellow paints and created a ton of amazing colors.

Step #2 – Explore the Color Wheel

After we had mixed our colors, we put them on the paint wheel and talked about them a bit.  This isn’t a box for a 4-year-old, but the color mixing aspect of this was perfect for him!

Step #3 – Paint the Art Sheets

I decided to just go with a rainbow wall hanging, we painted each sheet a different color from our color wheel and let them dry for a few hours.

Step #4 – Assemble Your Wall Hanging

I was so interested in the assembly process that I had to do it after the kids went to bed last night.  Much to my amazement, the assembly tool worked like a charm.  It made everything line up perfectly.  This little piece of cardboard is everything!

I have NO IDEA what happened to my other leaf.  I know I had it to begin with (you can even see it in my materials picture above), but it was nowhere to be found when I went to put it together.

Finished Project

I thought this turned out great!  I love the projects that involve painting!  W and I had a great time mixing the colors too.  This was such a fun month for Doodle Crate!
