These looked yummy!

Everything arrived neatly packaged in a Whisk & Flour cloth drawstring bag.

Dry ingredients were individually packed and clearly labeled.

The box also included silicone baking cups, a cupcake corer and a pastry bag.  Additional supplies needed included – mixing bowls (medium and large), a sifter /mesh strainer, a mixer and a baking sheet.

The January 2017 Whisk & Flour included ingredients needed to make Chocolate Nutella Cupcakes – a tempting chocolate cupcakes filled with nutella and topped with hazelnuts.

The Cupcakes

I found the instructions to be clear and easy to follow.  No issues at all!

In addition to the ingredients provided, I also needed to add unsalted butter, an egg, milk and hot water – all things I had on hand.

I made a big mess mixing my ingredients – powder flying everywhere. I think I overestimated the size of the bowl needed.

The instructions said to full each baking cup 3/4 full.  I feel like I could have just a tiny bit more batter.

I was pleased with how nicely these turned out!

Okay, so I have never used a cupcake corer before and I was expecting it to work like an apple corer. I thought the inside of the cupcake would actually come out.  Nope.  It just pushed it down and left a little hole.  At least that’s how it worked for me ;).  It was easy to get the nutella in and I felt like I had just enough to do it.

The Icing

I addition to instructions on how to make the icing, the box also included instructions on how to ice the cupcakes.  This was much appreciated.

In addition to the ingredients provided, I had to add unsalted butter and milk.  Again, all things I had on hand.

The included ingredients made plenty of icing.  Enough for all eight cupcakes and a little left over for my kids to try.

I cut my pastry bag on a slant which made my icing a little uneven.  Still I think they turned out great!

The cupcakes were delicious!  We all loved them (my boys had them without the almonds)!  Way better than the cupcakes I typically make from the box ;).  At $28/box, it works out to $3.50 per cupcake which isn’t all that outrageous.  Plus I had a great time making them and will be using that cupcake corer every time I make cupcakes from now on!
