The April 2017 Freedom Japanese Market included the following items:
~Nagewa: These are beef consomme flavored ring-shaped potato crisps. I found them to taste better than I expected. A little salty, but not bad.
~Tohato Caramel Corn: Cheesecake flavored caramel corn! Who even knew such a thing existed? And why isn’t this a big thing in the States? I loved it!
~Kabuki Cracker: Kabuki crackers are traditional rice crackers. They are almost like a thinner coated version of a rice cake?
~Mix Fruit Mochi: These are apple and pineapple flavored mochi pieces. Mochi is a pounded sticky rice, and my 9-year-old loves it. He thought these were amazing.
~Premium Umaibo: This is mozzarella, and camembert cheese flavored puffed corn. Camembert is a soft, creamy, surface-ripened cow’s milk cheese. It’s a giant crunchy cheese puff. Yum!
~Umaka!: Hmm. These are ramen chips flavored like a Nagasaki noodle dish (seafood and veggie flavor). I can’t get into the seafood flavor, so these were a miss for me.
~Teriyaki Umaibo: This is a teriyaki burger flavored tube if puffed corn. It sounds a little odd, and it is but in a good way.
~Pizza Umaibo: I have tried this pizza-flavored tube of puffed corn in the past. It’s a little spicy (to me anyway), but fun to try!
~Caplico Mini: This mini ice-cream cone has a chocolate coating on the inside and a strawberry “scoop” on top. Tasty!
~UFO Ramune: These are Ramune flavored hard candies. Ramune is a carbonated soft drink (it comes in assorted flavors), and my kids thought these were so fun!
~Un-Choco: Un-Choco are mini grape flavored chocolate balls. I wouldn’t say they were good, but they also weren’t bad. I probably wouldn’t have them again though.
~Shimi Choco Corn: These are star-shaped corn puffs coated in strawberry chocolate. They almost remind me of those Gerber puffs I used to give my children – minus the chocolate coating ;).
~Ume Paper and Chewing Straw Candy: Oops! No pictures of these! That’s the problem with snack boxes – once you realize you missed a picture, the snacks are gone ;). The Ume Paper was pickled plum flavor (both sweet and sour), and we weren’t fans. The Chewing Straw Candy was a hit though. It’s a straw shaped favored grape gummy candy. So good!
~Origami: The box also included a katana-shaped origami to get into the spirit of Children’s Day.
I didn’t do a cost breakdown on this box, but I loved the variety! What do you think of Freedom Japanese Market? If you are interested in subscribing, you can check them out here.
