The Project

I wasn’t totally sure where to start, so I just jumped right in!

I decided to use cookie cutters to get a few shape ideas.

Looking back, I should have skipped the watercolor portion of the cards.  Or planned better? I didn’t love the way this one turned out.  I used my cookie cutter mustache cut-out as a stencil and then painted the rest of the card.

I colored in the white portion of my card with the embossing pen and then applied the embossing powder.  This was super messy, and I really wasn’t too sure this would work.

But it did!  I used the embossing tool (it’s a multi-purpose heat tool) and held it about 4 inches from my design.  It turned the powder into a smooth (non-messy) glossy finish.

Instead of painting this one, I used only the embossing to freehand some hearts.  I applied gold powder and then used the heat tool.  It was so fun to watch the powder change!  It’s very difficult to see where you have used the embossing pen, so you really need to be working in good lighting (I was not).  Also, I had some stray loose powder on the card which “set” when I used the heat tool.  It’s hard to get the powder off without messing up the powder in the areas you do want to emboss.  That’s something I need to work on figuring out.

Final Thoughts

My cards are by no means professional quality, but I think they are fun.  And I have lots of materials to keep trying.
