Book of the Month is a monthly book subscription service. Each month their panel of Judges selects a limited number of exceptional books to offer to their members. They announce their New Selections on the first of the month, and members have six days to decide which book (or books) they would like to receive. They ship books to all of their members at the same time, so members can read and participate in their discussion forum as a group.
Disclosure: This complimentary box was received for review purposes. All opinions are my own, and no compensation was received.
Book of the Month ships via USPS on the 6th day of each month. Books always come neatly packed and in perfect condition.
The jackets contain a BOTM logo, and the back shows the month the book was selected.
I received all of this month’s books, but decided to read Summer of ’69 by Elin Hilderbrand.
~Summer of ’69 by Elin Hildebrand: As soon as I could (about two months ago) I put myself on the waiting list at the library for this book. I believe I was #36 in line, so I was thrilled that this was a June BOTM pick! I have read lots by this author and she never disappoints. This book was no exception. I read it over the course of a weekend and loved it. It is an easy read and the seriously a perfect beach book. If you are considering reading this book over the summer, snag it from Book of the Month now because your local library likely already has a waiting list a mile long like mine does!!
Welcome to the most tumultuous summer of the twentieth century! It’s 1969, and for the Levin family, the times they are a-changing. Every year the children have looked forward to spending the summer at their grandmother’s historic home in downtown Nantucket: but this year Blair, the oldest sister, is marooned in Boston, pregnant with twins and unable to travel. Middle sister Kirby, a nursing student, is caught up in the thrilling vortex of civil rights protests, a passion which takes her to Martha’s Vineyard with her best friend, Mary Jo Kopechne. Only son Tiger is an infantry soldier, recently deployed to Vietnam. Thirteen-year-old Jessie suddenly feels like an only child, marooned in the house with her out-of-touch grandmother who is hiding some secrets of her own. As the summer heats up, Teddy Kennedy sinks a car in Chappaquiddick, a man flies to the moon, and Jessie experiences some sinking and flying herself, as she grows into her own body and mind.
