Bojerky August 2015 Subscription Box

Bojerky is a monthly beef jerky subscription box. Each month subscribers receive craft jerky from all around the US. Subscribers can opt for the “Regular” size $30/month which contains 6oz of 4+ flavors of jerky or the “Half” for $15/month which contains 3oz of 2+ flavors of jerky. I received the Regular to review.

The Box

Bojerky ships via USPS and took a handful of days to arrive to me. They ship from Detroit and I am only about 45 minutes outside of Detroit, so that explains why it comes so quickly.

First Look

This was my first month receiving Bojerky so I didn’t know if I was expecting Bojerky branded jerky or what. I was happy to see one of B’s favorite jerky brands when I opened the box. I knew right away this was going to be a good box. It doesn’t come with an information card, but I didn’t have any troubles finding the jerky information online. Here is what the August 2015 Bojerky box contained:

~SlantShack Spicy RedЯub Jerky (2oz) ($7.99): SlantShack Spicy RedЯub jerky is made from 100% grass-fed beef.  It’s hot & smoky and is made with spicy pepper.

~SlantShack Vermont Maple Glaze & Garlic Powder Beef Jerky (2oz) ($7.99): SlantShack’s Vermont Maple Glaze & Garlic Powder beef jerky is also made from 100% grass-fed beef (some of their jerkys are made from USDA Choice beef).  When I read the label on this one I immediately thought of breakfast. I guess if you wanted to eat beef jerky for breakfast you could eat any flavor, but the maple glaze seemed fitting.  LOL!  This is also described as hot & smoky.  B has yet to try either one of these (I didn’t want to wait because I know I wouldn’t get a ton of details out of him anyway), but these don’t look overly appetizing to me. I think that about all jerky though – not just this brand. It always tastes better than it looks (and smells).

~Dave’s Meat & Nuts Root Beer Habanero Beef Jerky (3oz) ($8): Root beer beef jerky?  Who even know such a thing existed? Not me and that’s why Bojerky is great.  Because they not only knew about it, but because they also included it in the box.  I will be trying this one when B cracks into it.  Root beer is like the cool new thing so this is great.

~Bayou Blend File Gumbo Creole Blend Beef Jerky (1.5oz) ($4.66): This jerky is made in Louisiana and is allowed to marinate in Bayou Blends special blend of spices before it’s dehydrated and vacuum sealed. This jerky gets amazing reviews on Amazon and while it’s going to be a little too spicy for me, it’d made an amazing gift to a jerky lover.

All totaled I came up with a value of $28.64 for the August 2015 Bojerky box.  That’s slightly under the cost of the box, but it doesn’t include shipping.  From what I can tell, these brands aren’t sold at a lot of places around here, so if you wanted to try them out, you’d be paying for shipping on each of them.
