I’ve always wanted to live in one of those neighborhoods where people “boo” each other. If you’ve never heard of boo’ing, let me explain. You fill a basket or bucket or cauldron or whatever with fun treats and goodies you want and leave it on your neighbors porch in secret. And you attach a note that explains how they are to proceed (i.e. putting a sign in their window and then Boo’ing two additional neighbors).
I first heard of the idea a few years ago and wished we did it in our neighborhood. I mean, how fun does giving (and receiving) secret presents sound? Pretty fun to me. I toyed with the idea of starting it, but there just wasn’t enough houses. How fun would “booing” with ten houses be? It’d be over before it started. But now we have lots more houses and I’m starting it.
I didn’t want to throw a bunch of candy in a pumpkin pail and be done with it. I also elected not to include any homemade goodies because I wouldn’t eat random treats that showed up on my doorstep like that. Here’s what I included:
~Cupcake Mix / Frosting
~Halloween Candle
~BBW Hand Soap
~Halloween Spatula
~Halloween Kids Books (the house I am “boo’ing” has kids)
~Glow in the dark silly string
~Plates / cups / napkins
~Assorted candy
I was going to “Boo” two houses, so I got two cauldrons done and ready to go. But then I decided that if it comes back to me, I don’t want to end up boo’ing four houses. So I am saving it and plan to only Boo one house if it comes back to me.
So does your neighborhood boo? If not, is it something you are going to start? If so, what do people usually include? Oh and I really hope my neighbors don’t read my blog ;). I don’t want them to know this was all my idea ;).
I have always wanted to do that, but have never lived in a neighborhood like that. Hopefully, when we buy a house it will be in a nice spot and we can do that!
This is such a cute idea! Unfortunately, in South Africa, Halloween isn’t really a big deal or celebration and even trick or treating isn’t popular! I’m going to have to introduce a similar concept when we move into an estate next year – a lot easier that way!
Enjoy x
I have never heard of BOOing… Sounds like a lot of fun!
I started this last year with my kids and we had so much fun! We plan to do it again this year and I like your ideas for what to place in the bucket. Love your Booed signs — did you find them online somewhere?? Please post a link!!
OMG I just realized I never responded to you! Here is the link:

I’ve been wanting to start, but our street is mostly older people so I don’t think the BOOing will last…now that I think about it who cares I’m doing it, thanks for the inspiration!
I would like to have you as my neighbor. Please consider moving to North Carolina.
I LOVE this idea!! My husband will think I’m nuts but I’m totally gonna do it this year. We love in a very quit neighborhood with many elderly couples but we have a few younger houses so it might work. Yay!!
Totally do it!!
