If there’s one thing I love, it’s checking out new (to me) subscription boxes, so when the folks over at Gourmet Spotting asked if I would like to check out their Tasting Box, I jumped at the chance. In case you aren’t familiar, Gourmet Spotting is a curated monthly subscription service for foodies! Members receive a curated box of 4 to 6 medium/full size delicious gourmet products, delivered to their front door each month.
Gourmet Spotting uses a plain white box to ship, which is perfect because it can easily be reused. If you have ever gotten a package from me, you’ll know that I reuse ALL my subscription boxes.
I had to remove a lot of packaging materials to get a first look, but you get the idea. Everything was very nicely packaged and I’d be surprised if you ever get something broken or spilled in this box!
Gourmet Spotting has more of an letter than an information card. They tell you a little about the products and about the stories behind the people who make them. I read every single one because I totally love that kind of thing!
Here’s what was inside:
~Roni-Sue BaCorn ($5): This was selected by Mario Batali as one of his “Foodie-50” choices and I can totally see why. It’s made with locally grown hull-less popcorn, cultured butter, brown sugar, honey, molasses, salt, bacon & chile-spiked redskin peanuts. I might as well just order more now, because I know it’s going to be a big hit with B. I’m really not sure what’s not to like about this? Except maybe that the shop is in New York and I’m in MI? Thank goodness for the internet.
~Giuliano Tartufi Black Truffle Pasta ($15.99)(*): This isn’t something I would normally buy, but I am very excited to try this! Gourmet Spotting suggests adding some melted butter and cheese and I think that sounds perfect! I would assume you can find this Italian pasta somewhere in the States – maybe your local gourmet market, but I could only find it online. In euros. Which makes me even more interested in it!
~Southern Culture Artisan Foods Pancake & Waffle Mix ($7.99): Tell me this is not perfect timing to go along with the Drunken Monkey Jam we got earlier in the week? These pancake mixes are 100% organic and are hand-crafted to ensure that final product is of the highest quality. Pancakes are by far my favorite breakfast food so this is pretty much perfect!
~Eli Zabar Chocolate Chip Cookie ($4): I can confirm that this cookie is indeed delicious. In order to keep the reviews real, I thought I would try it today ;). On the Gourmet Spotting information card, it says that they were displaced by the Hurricane (Sandy) and stumbled upon Eli Zabar (which is on the Upper East Side) by accident. I wouldn’t mind roaming around New York for a few days to see what kind of fun places I could discover!
~Eli Zabar Blondie ($3.61): I haven’t tried this blondie yet, but I don’t see what could possibly be bad about it. I mean it’s a blondie. And in case you wonder what the different between a blondie and a brownie are (because I used to), blondies are brown sugar based while brownies are cocoa based.
All totaled I came up with a value of $36.59, which is right about what the box ($29.99) + shipping ($7.95) costs. And I didn’t even include shipping in my costs which would probably boost the value up to around $50! Plus, I wouldn’t have known about any of these products had they not been included in the box. Seriously, that’s the best part about these boxes. Learning and trying new things!

The blondie for sure.
OMG- I love blondies! Totally forgot about them until I saw this. I used to get the best blondies someplace but for the life of me, I can’t remember where 🙁
mmm
The truffle pasta looks A.MAZE.ING.
All of this looks amazing!! Especially the cookie!
The cookie and blondie looks delish!
The box you got looks so much yummier than mine! Wish i had gotten the sweets. I ended up with a hot sauce, truffle oil, durum pasta, banana pudding flavored pancake mix (yours looks like vanilla?) and the bacorn. I guess they gave me some of the stuff from the past few boxes since i’ve seen those before. A bit disappointed and their cancellation policy was a bit shifty.
I hope I win this one! I love anything food related!!
Everything in this box looks good!!
Duh, the chocolate chip cookie! I haven’t been to anything named Zabar’s in way too long!
Everything looks so good. I sure hope to win.
I’ve been so good at avoiding cookies lately (they are my weakness) but I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to eat a cookie after looking at that one. Everything looks delicious!
