My June The Little Book Club shipment finally arrived today! I am very patient with my subscriptions shipping late because I know things happen, but I this long delay even has me annoyed. I paid for this box on 5/26/13, the July box on 6/26/13 and was *this* close to getting billed for the August box before this one arrived. I can handle getting billed for the second month knowing that the first month is on it’s way, but this delay was too long even for my liking. I understand that they had some inventory issues, but I would have liked to see a refund be issued for my July box until the June one had shipped or a partial credit be issued or both boxes be shipped at the same time or something?

I got the shipping notification from Stamps.com on 7/11/13 saying my box would arrive in 7-9 days, but according to my tracking, it didn’t leave CA until 7/20/13.  But once it did start moving it got here fast.

First Look

I was so excited to finally get my hands on my box that I almost didn’t take a first look picture.  But I stopped myself before I got too far and snapped one.

The Information Card

My June The Little Book Club theme was “Sweets” and once again I did not have any of the books included.  This is one of the reasons I LOVE The Little Book Club because while we have 8 million books, we never have any of the ones they send.  I should mention The Little Book Club customizes the themes by age and I get this subscription for WB, who is 15 months.  L always enjoys the books too though.

Here’s what was included in the box:

~Cupcake by Charise Mericle Harper ($11.29): Aww, I love this book!  It’s about a vanilla cupcake who thinks he’s not as cool as all the fancy cupcakes around him.  I love this author and I love this book.  Why didn’t I have this before?  Love!!

~The Little Mouse, the Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear by Don Wood ($7.99): I totally remember reading this book and loving it when I was a kid and I can’t wait to read it to my kids!  I really need to go to a local bookstore and just browse the kids book section to see what I come up with.  I always have the kids with me when we do stuff like that and we end up with train and car books, which are good, but I think this is a classic!

~Little Pea by Amy Krouse Rosenthal ($11.98): Another totally adorable book that I have never heard of before!  It’s all about Little Pea who is forced to eat candy and sweets for dinner before he can get his hands on yummy veggies for dessert!  Love it!

All totaled I came up with a value of $31.26 for the June The Little Book Club, which is more than the $24.95/month cost of the box, even with using Amazon & Barnes & Noble prices.  I love love love the idea behind this service and love discovering all these new books monthly.  But I am not loving the long delays (there was an issue last month as well).  I am going to see what’s going on with my July box and see how long it takes to arrive and make a decision from there.  I *hope* this month was just a crazy issue and that things will get resolved, but only time will tell.

Noah loves the strawberry book. We don’t have it but my sister in law does and he’s read it at preschool. Hmm maybe I should get it here for Caleb too. It is a great book. Agree I love this concept and if they ever figure out the shipping & billing then I might be up for checking it out.

I cancelled my subscription after the issue last month. I got billed for June before the May box got to me. I did get it refunded though. I love the selections, but didn’t want to deal with inefficiency. The customer service was really quick to respond to my emails though.

I agree it is totally a cute concept but I dealt with the shipping issues last month and cancelled after that. I just get nervous about companies having access to my bank account that can’t manage to send me out my subscription in the month promised. I do wish it worked out tho because those are some cute books!

Cute! We cancelled our subscription due to the long delays and not wanting to spend the money every month. We loved every package, but we already have a HUGE kids book library and I buy books all the time on my own…

This month looked great though! I hope they can figure out the shipping thing soon.

I am so frustrated with this company. I absolutely LOVE these books, but am in the same predicament as you. I’ve been paying since March, but have only received April and May’s boxes. I’ve paid 3 months ahead now, and my June box is still in the mail. I’ve sent 3 requests to cancel before my next bill date (tomorrow), and the guy is not responding to me. I really, really wish this company was better than it is, because the books are amazing! Sproutkin, on the other hand, is perfect!

I have only gotten 2 shipments (May and June) and have been billed for July? I’m getting confused but the long wait times for these books. And I assume I will be billed August 3rd..for a shipment I wont receive til the end of Sept.*my head hurts*

After mentioning all that, I get a shipment for my 5 yeard old because we have tons of books from my older boys and we also have 2 year old..this shipment (June?) our theme “Innovation and Imagination” Sector 7 by David Wiesner, Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel by Virginia Lee Burton, and Oh, the Places You’ll Go! by Dr. Suess

We already have 2 copies of the Dr. Suess book so I’ll gift it..I thought I read you can get a credit if you already have the book but I can’t even get a response from CS about the $5 credit for the shipping confusion month before last.

I really like The Little Book Club but I am gonna need the shipment/billing to straighten out since I’m losing track of what I’m paying for.

We have read the Cupcake book for years now and I adore every single page. Super Duper Cute and a keeper for our book shelf.

The Cupcake book is one of Georgia’s favorites! I got it at a baby shower and we read it all the time.

I must say I was sadded by the recent email they sent out becuase I do think this is a great subscription. However I am still waiting for my June box to appear (according to USPS, its still showing the electronic notification) and since The Little Book Club couldn’t track it either they went ahead and refunded me.
After the email I am assuming we wont be receiving July’s box so now I have to figure out how my billing worked :/ and see if I was billed for Aug as well.

Whats your take on all this and since I classifiy you the queen of subscription boxes…do you know of any other kids book club scriptions?

    Thanks !

I had the same issues with this company and getting charged for the next month before ever receiving the previous month. I was wondering though, did you ever receive your July order? I’m STILL waiting and have contacted the company multiple times with no response…just wondering if it’s just me.
